Full job description

The Interim Preschool Teacher for Saline Cooperative Preschool is responsible for presenting and implementing a program for the 2024-2025 school year that meets the developmental needs of the preschool children, and for supervising the daily assisting parents within regulations established by the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services and the by-laws of the Saline Cooperative Preschool.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

*Transcripts are used to substantiate the achievement of educational requirements. Credentials must verify:

  • Minimum of 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university.
  • Not fewer than 12 semester hours of credit in child development, child psychology, or early education (OR) a child development associate (CDA) credential, awarded by the council for early children professional recognition or similar credential approved by the department and shall have completed not fewer than 12 semester hours in child development, child psychology, or early childhood education at an accredited college or university.

Note: The following curriculum are now accepted as being equivalent to the CDA:

A. Michigan 4C School Age Credentialing Program

B. High/Scope Lead Teacher Training Program

  • Able to lead discussions on curriculum design with the board while able to accept and incorporate parent and board feedback.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and meet the physical requirements of working with preschool age children.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years prior professional preschool or early elementary level teaching experience.
  • A demonstrated calm demeanor, alertness and warm interest in preschoolers
  • Ability to assign tasks that consider an individual child’s abilities while anticipating and preventing acts that precipitate crises
  • Genuine enjoyment of things that spark playfulness in children
  • Good oral and written communication skills with children, parents, daily assisting parents and the board

CRITERIA FOR REVIEW

Teaching Duties

  • The Teacher will act as Director of the Preschool Education Program
  • Teach up to 5 (five) sessions per week as established in the school calendar
  • Establish and maintain the curriculum, including but not limited to, communicating his/her basic preschool philosophy to the membership and presenting a monthly plan of activities and goals in the school's calendar
  • Advise the field resource person in the planning and organizing of field trips
  • Prepare a file for substitutes which shall be updated monthly and kept on file in the Preschool

Related Duties

  • Be available to parents to discuss concerns for their children
  • Keep accurate records concerning enrollment, attendance, and withdrawal of children
  • Prepare for and conduct individual student conferences a minimum of one time per year
  • Report all needs of the Preschool in regards to purchase, replacement, or repairs of the supplies and equipment
  • Participate in the Spring Open Houses
  • Attend scheduled General Membership meetings
  • Attend monthly board meetings as a nonvoting member of the board.
  • Participate in the beginning-of-year set-up, and end-of-year clean-up of classroom
  • If possible, attend the Michigan Council of Cooperative Nurseries Spring Conference and/or Huron Valley Council of Cooperative Nurseries Teacher Auxiliary meeting

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20,000.00 - $24,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week

Ability to Relocate:
