Our Tree Care Education Specialists work with providing disadvantaged youth to provide hands-on training and experience in forestry. Our mission is to equip our student with the skills to make a difference in urban forests and beyond.
Core Responsibilities:
Instruction: Teach essential urban forestry skills, covering:
- Tree Biology, Identification & Selection
- Soil Management and Pruning Techniques
- Tree Risk Assessment, Diagnosis & Treatment
- Urban Forestry Practices and Trees in Construction
- Safe Work Practices in all areas (top priority)
Skills You’ll Teach and Master:
- Safety & Risk Management: Back injury prevention, general work site safety, hazard recognition, emergency procedures, and electric hazard awareness.
- Tree Care and Maintenance: Pruning principles, tree identification, and selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Equipment Operation: Chain saw safety and use, chipper safety, proper equipment use and maintenance, knots and rope operation for rigging, and vehicle safety.
- Professional Skills: Job briefings, understanding work orders and plans, orientation to the tree care profession, and vehicle operation for job sites.
- Mentorship: Provide ongoing support, encouragement, and feedback, fostering a respectful and inclusive learning environment.
- Hands-On Training: Facilitate practical, real-world experiences in tree climbing, rigging, pruning, and other fieldwork activities.
- Safety First: Model and enforce the highest safety standards, ensuring all activities comply with industry and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in forestry, tree care, or a related field, with an emphasis on urban forestry, tree biology, or arboriculture
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring or training, ideally with youth or disadvantaged populations
- Knowledge of tree care practices, forest safety management, and urban forestry principles
- Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to safety and inclusivity
Our Tree Care Education Specialists work Monday to Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:00.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $56,220.00 - $61,145.00 per year
