Full job description

Candidates must possess a valid Illinois professional educator license

Junior High Mathematics Teacher duties and responsibilities include:

1. Communicate, collaborate, cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, and students

2. Conduct learning activities in mathematics to students in a classroom utilizing district approved curriculum, aligned with the state common core standards

3. Demonstrate math concepts using models, manipulatives, interactive boards with a focus on student involvement

4. Design learning activities that will relate mathematics to real world experiences, encouraging each student to apply math understanding and skills in practical problems

5. Instruct students in citizenship, respect for others, ways to be safe, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

6. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil

7. Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences designed to meet individual needs through individual and/or group instruction

8. Communicate regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, emails, phone calls, texts, conferences, etc. to discuss student progress, assessments, and the school curriculum

9. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom and in the whole school environment

10. Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports

11. Identify pupil needs, makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans (IEP) and response to intervention

12. Plan and coordinate the work of teacher assistants, parents, volunteers in the classroom and on field trips

13. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when necessary

14. Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students’ work

15. Participate in the School Improvement Planning process as defined in NCLB

16. Create an effective environment for child-centered learning, efficiently utilizing the available time for instruction and applying the use of 21st Century learning skills (including technology)

17. Continually evaluate students’ academic and social growth, readjusting the teacher procedure to stimulate continuous progress

18. Present a positive teacher image to the community

19. Maintain professional competence through school improvement in service education activities provided by the district

20. Participate cooperatively with administration throughout the evaluation process

21. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities

22. Participate in curriculum development programs as required.

23. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.

24. Work with supervisors to develop and maintain a program of safe conditions and practices for the welfare of the students, faculty, employees, volunteers, visitors and other invitees.

25. Implement all rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines as set forth through board policy, administrative procedures, and state law

26. Adhere to expectations for professional competence as reflected in Danielson’s framework for professional practices

27. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of the administration and in accordance with the teachers’ contract
