Summary
The Kitchen Coordinator will join Open Doors’ team and work closely with volunteers, and leadership to ensure smooth operations of the area’s only low-barrier emergency shelter’s kitchen program. The position will be responsible for managing a kitchen program that will provide one meal for up to 72 individuals daily (up to 100 in extenuating circumstances), utilizing an in-house kitchen. A customer-first mindset is desired, as work will involve daily interaction with a vulnerable population.
Organization Profile
Since 2007, Open Doors has provided shelter, compassionate support, and access to services to the Harrisonburg – Rockingham community. Open Doors is embarking on an exciting journey through the Homeless Services Center which is expected to open for public services in November of 2024.
Duties
- Plans and prepares meals for shelter guests.
- Coordinates and trains kitchen volunteers to prepare and serve meals.
- Manages kitchen cleanness and ensures standards are maintained.
- Manages kitchen procurement (i.e., food and auxiliary materials).
- Manages menu ensuring high nutritional value and diversity.
- Creates, manages, and maintains kitchen standard operating procedures and policies.
Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation/chef role.
- ServSafe preferred; training provided by employer if necessary.
- Experience in a supervisory role beneficial.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
