Full job description
Hopewell House is a 30+ year hospice institution in Portland now a residential care facility completely focused on end-of-life needs, with care for those who are dying and support for their families and loved ones. Typically, our residents are already in hospice and have a remaining life expectancy of 45 days or less.
Seeking full time Kitchen Manager to manage kitchen services for residents at Hopewell House in accordance with a culture of mindful caregiving. This is a 40 hr/week salaried position, with work days to be determined by the employee and supervisor. Compensation is $60,000-$63,000 annually DOE.

Hopewell House is first and foremost a home for those at the end-of-life. Thus, we believe that food will be an essential aspect of providing our residents with the best possible care. The Kitchen Manager will work with the Cook, our volunteers, and caregiving staff to create a culture of mindful caregiving by planning and providing "homemade-from scratch" meals around our resident’s needs, modified when required by disease or condition, including cultural preferences and desires.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Oregon Food Handler’s license.
- Two years of commercial cooking experience.
- Experience running a commercial kitchen.
- Flexibility with schedule, including ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience running a kitchen in a community-based care setting.
- Experience cooking in a non-profit setting.
- Experience with specialty diets (i.e., diabetic, low sodium, textural/ liquid).
- Experience working with volunteers.

Responsibilities:
- To oversee all kitchen related operations, including:
- Procuring all food and food service supplies
- Preparation of resident and visitor meals
- Adherence to kitchen health and safety standards
- Compliance with Oregon Administrative Rules for Residential Care Facility Food Services
- Prepare and publish a weekly menu one week in advance per Residential Care Facility regulations.
- Communicate with caregiving staff regarding the dietary needs of residents and plan meals accordingly.
- Ensure correct quantities of foods are made and served in adherence with food safety and sanitation standards.
- Guide and prepare volunteers and kitchen staff and certified nurse assistants in food preparation when not onsite, and provides instruction for when others are preparing food.
- Supervise part-time cook, including performance reviews.
- Assist administrative staff in creating the budget for kitchen operations.
