Full job description
At Trailhead Biosystems, we focus on the generation of cell types from all germ layers and have programs focusing on ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm cell differentiation. Currently, we are looking to expand our operational capacity; we are seeking a well-rounded person capable of handling diverse set of daily operations a high-growth life science facility and working with interdisciplinary teams covering cell biology, developmental biology, and molecular biology. In this role you will have the opportunity to assist in the setup and management Trailhead's new laboratory and have input in new lab processes. The Lab Coordinator role is responsible for supervising and performing technical and administrative tasks on a day-to-day basis to support the research and operational needs. This role acts as the liaison between the lab team and the operational management.
Job responsibilities:
- Responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory, day to-day laboratory operations, personnel performing testing and reporting test results
- Responsible for ensuring uniform data reporting across projects
- Provide inputs to improve processes in company's new laboratory
- Maintain and improve a lean laboratory through initiatives like 5s, Kanban and other Lean principles
- Participates in verification of the test procedures performed and the establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system
- Creating equipment maintenance logs and maintaining lab equipment such as centrifuges, incubators, flow cytometers, microscopes, freezers etc.
- Manage chemical inventory and maintain usage logs
- Understanding of cell culture methods in order to maintain sterility and safety
- Help in creating material and overseeing training of new lab technologists
- Properly aliquot reagents and compounds as well as track their usage within the lab
- Help establish quality control measures for in-lab processes, ensuring quality processes
- Resolves technical and operational problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
- Identifies training needs and assuring that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed
- Order and stock the lab with necessary raw materials to maintain lab function
- Manage laboratory inventory management software by updating the electronic system to match physical inventory
- Provide support in administrative tasks, including managing office supplies and ordering as needed
- Help in maintaining efficient and organized office space and perform ad-hoc tasks for office space
- Perform tasks to support the function of the laboratory facility, such as troubleshooting/fixing equipment, reporting facility-related issues to the property management employees, and supporting initiatives that improve the lab facilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s with a background in biological sciences
- Have at least 3 years of experience working in biological research lab
- Clinical laboratory training or experience preferred
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
- Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle and process specimens, handle and repair lab equipments
- Thorough understanding of lab safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment
- Proficient in laboratory management software, ELNs, inventory management software and procurement software
- Experience working in a research lab and culturing cells is required
- Solid organization skills, time management, and team coordination
- Show initiative and exhibit independence in identifying and addressing short and long-term opportunities for optimization of lab processes
