Full job description
Vermont Literacy Network is seeking licensed early childhood and elementary educators to join our team as Literacy Teachers! As a Literacy Teacher at Vermont Literacy Network, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality, engaging instruction through virtual and/or in-person Individual Lessons. Our ideal candidates have a passion for reading and writing, deep understanding of structured literacy and the science of reading approach, and a commitment to providing equitable, multisensory learning experiences for students of diverse learning needs.
Vermont Literacy Network is an early literacy organization based out of Stowe, Vermont. Through our student, professional, and community programming, we are passionate about connecting our community one word at a time! Our new and quickly growing organization is working hard to expand our programming to the greater Vermont community. The position of a Literacy Teacher in our Individual Lessons is offered as a fully-remote position in addition to having Stowe-based availability. Fully-remote Literacy Teachers will have opportunities to provide high-quality literacy instruction to students throughout our beautiful state!
*** Please note that this position requires teachers to live within the state of Vermont and be willing to travel to our Stowe location a minimum of once monthly. ***
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, multisensory Individual Lessons virtually and/or in-person at our Stowe location
- Regularly assess and analyze students' literacy skills using “Show What You Know” assessments; maintain accurate and detailed records of student assessments, progress, and lesson plans through daily student data sheets
- Develop and implement an individualized intervention curriculum tailored to the diverse needs and goals of each student using resources, materials, and support provided by Vermont Literacy Network
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and additional at-home supports through mandatory, monthly family conferences
- Communicate regularly with Vermont Literacy Network’s administration and teachers to regularly update about student progress, and collaborate and share resources with other teachers in mandatory, monthly, in-person meetings
- Participate in evaluation processes including observation, participant feedback, and self-reflection to continuously improve your own skills and the programs at Vermont Literacy Network.
Qualifications
- Genuine passion for literacy education and commitment to empowering young learners to become proficient and enthusiastic readers and writers!
- A bachelor's degree in education, literacy, early childhood development, English, or similar field
- Vermont teaching license in early childhood or elementary education
- Minimum of two years of experience working with children from preschool to third-grade students in educational settings, community-based programs, after-school programs, or other similar activities. Experience in providing virtual instruction is preferred, but not required.
- Strong foundational knowledge of literacy development, instructional strategies, structured literacy, and the science of reading. Orton Gillingham trained/experienced preferred, but not required.
Pre-Employment Requirements
To ensure the safety of our students, candidates are required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:
- Criminal background check
- National Child Protection Act (NCPA) release form
- Fingerprints through the VT State Police
- VT Mandated Reporter training
Compensation
- Hourly rate of $30 per hour. Planning and preparation time will be compensated at the same hourly rate for 30-minutes per student per week. This time allocation is to be used at the discretion of the teacher to adequately prepare Individual Lessons.
- Reimbursement for materials and supplies at the discretion and approval of Vermont Literacy Network
