Log Yard Lead

Overview:

The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is a next-generation sawmill operator focused on sustainable, low-cost manufacturing of dimensional wood products. TLM is designing a state-of-the-art, modular sawmill to produce high-grade dimensional products with high efficiency. The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Log Yard Lead to oversee daily operations in our log yard at our New Albany facility. This role will drive the safe, efficient, and productive handling of raw materials, lead a team of yard workers, and maintain compliance with industry standards and company policies. This full-time, salaried position reports to the Mill Manager and plays an integral role in TLM’s overall success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coordinate log yard operations, including receiving, unloading, sorting, scaling, storing, and loading logs.
• Oversee and ensure the efficient movement and placement of materials to optimize yard space and productivity.
• Train, mentor, and evaluate yard personnel, ensuring adherence to safety and operational procedures.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities, coordinating maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and yard activities using computerized tracking systems.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and seamless delivery of materials.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
• Develop and implement operational improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Contribute to overall yard operations and logistics as needed.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in forestry, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
• Forklift Operator Certification, preferred offroad or rough terrain.
• Lift Equipment Operator Certification.
• Proven experience in log yard operations or similar supervisory roles.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and motivate teams effectively.
• Knowledge of industry standards, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
• Proficiency in computer systems and inventory management software.
• Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment:

This role involves working outdoors and requires physical activity, including lifting and operating heavy equipment in varying weather conditions. The Log Yard Lead must also be comfortable working in a team-oriented, fast-paced setting.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
