Full job description
This is a general operations and maintenance position that requires an individual to perform both general maintenance activities and periodically serve as a Basin Operator during groundwater recharge and extraction activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: General Maintenance
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor, performs all aspects of construction, maintenance, repair of; roads and right-of-ways, above ground and underground piping, valves, meters, concrete structures, canals, and related water distribution and drainage facilities.
1. Makes repairs and replaces faulty pipelines of various types and sizes.
2. Installs meters and piping for service to agricultural and municipal water users.
3. Performs general construction work, including installing forms and placement of concrete.
4. Performs erosion control and road repair.
5. Cuts, burns, sprays (using hazardous chemicals), and disposes of aquatic and vegetative growth.
6. Cleans trash racks and moss screens.
7. Operates portable equipment, truck-mounted weed spray rig, and hand tools.
8. Operates District vehicles and miscellaneous equipment such as portable pumps.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Basin Operator
As a member of the Operations Department, and under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, performs duties relating to spreading basin operation, well field operation, and participates in Operation's Department activities as needed, as well as other District duties as may be required from time to time.
1. Operation of spreading basins.
2. Start and stop District owned wells and pumps.
3. Prepare reports for submission to Operations Supervisor.
4. Cutting and spraying weeds around wells, the check gates and all pond structures.
5. Removal of trash from the canal and culverts.
6. Routine patrol of canal and maintain water level at check gates.
7. Maintain surveillance of the spreading basin and report intruders.
8. Keeps the Tejon Pumping Plant, North Ponds, and District vehicle clean and orderly.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
EXPERIENCE: General maintenance and equipment experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Work in excavations of various depths.
2. Work in buried dewatered pipelines 3 feet to 11 feet in diameter.
3. Operate material-handling equipment.
4. Work under hazardous conditions, such as inside pipelines, excavations, tanks, and with hazardous materials.
5. Operate field equipment.
6. Work irregular hours and call outs.
7. Experience with stick welding (MAG/MIG) preferred, but not required.
8. Commercial Class A Driver's License preferred, but not required.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
1. Climb stationary ladders up to and including 100 feet in height.
2. Perform heavy physical work (must have ability to lift 100 lbs. such as sandbags, valves, pipes, etc.).
3. Must be able to bend, stoop, and crawl in confined spaces.
4. Perform physical work in all kinds of weather.
A job-related physical exam, background check, and drug screen is mandatory as well as a valid Class C California Driver's License and acceptable DMV record. This position may be required to obtain a Hazmat endorsement and/or a pesticide applicator's license.
May be required to work unscheduled call outs and overtime as the District's needs may require.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.92 - $32.82 per hour
