Job Purpose

The Maintenance Mechanic safely performs repairs preventative maintenance on bottling machinery and systems, winery equipment, and facilities. The MM will coordinate with other winery staff, service providers or vendors for additional assistance on an as needed basis. The ideal candidate will fully learn the operation and maintenance of each component of the incoming bottling line and the associated systems. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules and procedures; perform and document repairs and preventative actions, keeping a safe, effective, and efficient work area with supply of company provided spare parts, change parts, and tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working and hands-on knowledge of food processing, winery and/or wine bottling equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of different pumping systems used in winery production: Air/Centrifugal/Positive Displacement. Ability to breakdown and repair each type of pump.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain bottling line mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot equipment using electrical schematics with working knowledge of electrical safety, (Allen-Bradley/Siemens), PLC’s, VFD’s, and 24v low voltage relays to 480-volt systems.
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize tasks including troubleshooting equipment in operation or from efficiency reports and past maintenance history.
  • Create and track maintenance records for bottling and facility support equipment.
  • Stock and keep an adequate inventory of supplies and spare parts in order to maintain the operation and minimize the downtime of bottling equipment.
  • Maintain equipment within bottling, minimizing equipment failures and production downtime.
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with vendors and outside service companies.
  • Inspects bottling equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.
  • Understand and follow safe operating procedures in accordance with current OSHA & Cal OSHA guidelines, safety programs and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and other team members’ safety.
  • Prepare required reports as requested.
  • Work flexible job assignments/shifts and schedules, including overtime.
  • Ability to work where needed within the winery or on the bottling line.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees of all levels.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in Winery or high-volume liquids filling and packaging equipment maintenance with demonstrated and current fabrication skills of practical welding (MIG/TIG/Cutting torch/Aluminum) any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience providing the knowledge, abilities, and skills cited above.
  • Basic wine and winery knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess a current and active forklift driver license/certification and a valid driver’s license with clean DMV record.
