Maintenance Supervisor

Handi-Foil Corp., the industry leader in the manufacture, sale, marketing and distribution of disposable aluminum bakeware has an immediate opening for the position of Maintenance Supervisor at our Antioch, Illinois facility. This privately held company has been in business for over forty years and continues to experience strong growth year after year.

General Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for directing the daily workload, inspecting for quality of repairs, and facilitating communications between maintenance staff, maintenance supervision/management, and operations management. Determines the need for major repairs of individual equipment. Assigns work to available personnel. Identifies resources needed, recommends and implements relevant procedures and recognizes the need for safety, equipment reliability and efficiency. Provides and/or coordinates staff training. Inspects and performs as necessary work methods for maintaining cleanliness and safety of shop facilities. Recommend adjustments as necessary and address concerns with maintenance mechanics and production on equipment. Maintains uniform practices and procedures for an effective operation of the machines and/or equipment preventative maintenance program. This position is expected to perform with advanced technical proficiency in the following trades and/or expertise to perform technical supervision over a maintenance shop.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assigns jobs to maintenance staff, according to abilities, knowledge, and core competencies.
  • Repair equipment and facilities as required.
  • Perform maintenance tasks according to Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems and repair as needed.
  • Keep records of all maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of all critical spare parts.
  • Monitor production equipment during processing to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the process.
  • Maintain communications with employees of all departments.
  • Implement improvements to equipment, facilities, and process.
  • Keep staff informed of pending repairs and projects.
  • Provide budgetary information as required.
  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of projects.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma, trade school certification or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in supervising and leading technical resources in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience in troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or mechanical breakdowns and equipment failure.
  • Able to work hours between 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Read, interpret operating condition and work from sketches, drawings, electrical schematics, floor plans and blueprints.
  • Electrical, mechanical, electronic and PLC troubleshooting practices.
  • Hydraulic, pneumatic troubleshooting and piping and pump experience.
  • Compressors-centrifugal and Compressors-reciprocating repair
  • AC, DC and servo motors, branch circuit protection and electrical components.
  • Precision measurement tools, machine leveling and alignment.
  • Equipment installation and/or relocation.
  • Advanced level of mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, man lift and electric pallet jack.
  • Willingness to work on equipment and climb ladders in excess of 20 feet from the ground.
  • Read electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams and schematics.
  • Ability to use various electronic test equipment, shop tools, and all available power tools.
  • Identify and order parts from a large variety of equipment manuals.
  • Work overtime and/or any shift as needed.
  • Read, write and speak in English, using documentation and verbal methods.
  • Ability to perform and supervise all job functions in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Perform prescribed projects within assigned time frames.
  • Follow oral and written instructions, keep records and make reports.
