Reports to: Executive Director

FLSA Status: Part-Time - Hourly/Non-Exempt

Location: On-site at Family Promise properties

Schedule: Weekdays, some flexibility in days/times

Hours: 15-20 hours/week

Pay Rate: $18-$20/hour

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician will support our shelter properties located in Wilmington, NC – including apartments and single-family homes. This is an ideal opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional seeking flexible, part-time hours.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of all facilities and grounds at FPLCF. This role involves performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on building systems and equipment, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, and general tasks.

The Maintenance Technician works closely with residents and staff to address maintenance needs promptly, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all families. Additionally, the role requires maintaining detailed records of repairs and servicing schedules, adhering to safety regulations, and supporting the dignity, privacy, and safety of families by performing tasks with minimal disruption to daily operations.

Job Roles

  • Respond to the maintenance requests placed by residents and staff (basic electrical, plumbing, drywall, appliance repair, etc.)
  • Prep vacant shelter units for new families (patching, painting, minor repairs)
  • Perform general groundskeeping (trash removal, light landscaping, etc.)
  • Ability to diagnose problems and troubleshoot appropriately needed repairs
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs and service schedules
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of High School diploma
  • 2+ years of residential or apartment maintenance experience preferred
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs (certifications a plus)
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable transportation and proof of valid driver’s license and car insurance
  • Spanish speaking preferred, not required
  • Ability to pass a background check and represent FPLCF professionally

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
