Full job description
Haviland Enterprises, Inc., a 100% Employee Owned, industrial chemical, plastics and pool and spa chemical manufacturing and distribution company, specializing in creative chemistry seeks a Maintenance Technician III at our Haviland East Grand Rapids facility. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager. We are looking for an independent, reliable, self-motivated, self-starter, with a positive attitude, team approach, with an "Owner" and process improvement mentality. If that is you, apply today! Schedule: Monday-Friday 1st shift - 8:00am-4:30pm
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- 8+ years Maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance degree is a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Comfortable performing tasks at varying heights.
- Proven industrial mechanical skills - Troubleshooting and maintaining industrial manufacturing facility equipment.
- Ability to interpret instructions, plan, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, install or overhaul parts, equipment and systems.
- Hi-lo, boom lift, scissor lift, and petti bone experience required.
- Maintenance experience in plumbing, electrical, and light MIG & Stick welding skills and fabrication skills required.
- Must have a good driving record.
- Comfortable working with various industrial and pool and spa chemicals, working in and around confined spaces, wearing respirators and personal protective equipment.
- Willing and able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, customers, and management.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite and ERP systems. Chempax experience is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with superior teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain/repair mechanical and electrical equipment for the manufacturing and production of industrial and specialty chemicals and pool and spa chemicals.
- Routine performance of operational maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks regularly.
- Ensure the safe performance of all repairs, maintenance, and project activities.
- Work independently with minimal supervison and collaborate effectively with team members, management, engineering and operations.
- Sets up and operates all equipment needed to perform assigned tasks.
- Install and maintain motor control systems for fans, pumps, compressors, etc.
- Maintain appropriate logs and records of system operations.
- On-Call 24/7 for emergency maintenance needs.
- Work overtime as workload requires.
- Read and interpret where necessary blueprints, equipment manuals, layouts, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic.
- Escort and assist as necessary, outside contractors during quoting and execution of work.
- Assist with grounds keeping when required or needed.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as needed.
- Plan assigned work orders; identify and order parts/supplies as needed. Communicate time, support equipment, number of craftsmen, and operating conditions needed to complete.
- Analyze equipment and supplies to determine which supplies are needed for all work orders.
- Document findings once work orders are completed and ensure that they are completed in a timely manner.
- Serve the needs of internal customers by assisting & responding timely to high priority unplanned events.
- Work as an integral member of the Maintenance Team, providing machine support to current staff of machine operators and assist with various projects.
- Perform equipment start-ups, qualifications, disassembly or relocation of equipment.
- Assist in training others in the maintenance department and perform cross-training activities as assigned.
- Programming and set-up of equipment controls.
- Measuring parts and verifying dimensions with precise measuring tools in English and Metric
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be a safety hazard.
