United Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia is seeking a Major Gifts Officer. We are an open and affirming, diverse learning community equipping people to proclaim the Gospel for a changing church and changing world. With a history that dates back nearly 200 years we have an annual enrollment of more than 325 students, offering seven different graduate degrees, three certificate programs, and many continuing education opportunities. We are affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and are an ecumenical institution.

The Major Gifts Officer is a key member of the Advancement Team. This full-time position is responsible for managing a portfolio of donor prospects through a strategic process of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to secure the financial commitments necessary to support the operational and strategic initiatives of the seminary. Additionally, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with members of the Advancement Team in the development and implementation of a successful annual fund program, planned giving, and a comprehensive campaign.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

· Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward an assigned caseload of 125-150 prospects and donors through individual contact, personal communication and event planning

· Create an individual engagement and communication plan for each donor based upon donor history, relationship with the seminary, research and analytics, and donor potential that creates reasonable financial goals for each donor and identifies donors with the greatest giving potential

· Work collaboratively with the Advancement leadership to plan and implement targeted and effective outreach and communication activities to expand the size of the prospective donor pool and increase the level of financial support for the seminary

· Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with Advancement staff to plan, implement, and evaluate strategies and objectives of the Advancement strategic and operational plans

· Requires significant travel with an expectation of 120-150 donor appointments each year that result in 30 major gift solicitations of $2,500.00 or more

· Provide staff support at Advancement and seminary events as needed and provide communication, oversight, and training of volunteers, board members, faculty and alumni

· Provide timely updates to contact reports through Raiser’s Edge software, maintain appropriate records, participate in ongoing training and maintenance of skills related to database management and usage, and prepare weekly and monthly activity reports that record and evaluate activity and outcomes

· Maintain extensive knowledge about the seminary’s initiatives and activities to best represent the practices and priorities of the Advancement Office to constituents

· Manage people, processes, budgets, schedules, and timelines within organizational policies and procedures and maintain a positive and constructive working relationship with colleagues, particularly during times of change and stress
