Since founding in 2010 as a non-profit corporation, Scrag Mountain Music has been connecting Vermont communities to classical music in powerful ways. Each session, Scrag Mountain Music presents several weekends of innovative, interactive, and affordable chamber music performances in barns, art galleries, town halls and churches around Vermont. To allow concerts to be accessible to all, Scrag’s motto is “Come as you are. Pay what you can.” Scrag Mountain Music extends its reach to Vermont communities by bringing interactive performances and teaching residencies to Vermont schools and community organizations. Top-tier musicians from around the country are engaged in a retreat atmosphere for them to rejuvenate their artistry. Scrag Mountain Music has a consistent track record of financial viability and has steadily grown since its founding.
In partnership with Scrag Mountain Music's Artistic Director and Board of Directors, the Managing Director is responsible for leading operations, organizational growth, and mission execution. Responsibilities (detailed below) include operations and program planning, fundraising, marketing and communications, and leadership and management.
Operations and Program Planning - 30%
- Work closely with Scrag's Artistic Director to execute artistic and programmatic vision;
- Coordinate logistics for all residencies and other programs (including, but not limited to, coordination with venues, project partners, and artists);
- Attend concerts and events and manage front-of-house operations;
- Create concert programs;
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers;
- Manage Scrag's donor database:
- Respond to inquiries from the general public;
- Work with Artistic Director and Treasurer to create annual budget;
- Enter transactions into Quickbooks to facilitate financial record keeping;
- Other administrative duties as required
Fundraising - 40%
- Develop and execute long and short term fundraising plans;
- Together with Scrag's Artistic Director and Board of Directors, identity and cultivate new individual donors and engage current major donors;
- Manage the process of researching, applying to, and managing foundation and government grants;
- Manage the process of researching and cultivating relationships with businesses to secure corporate funding;
- Spearhead and coordinate annual appeal mailing;
- Spearhead and coordinate on-line giving campaigns;
- Oversee the planning and implementation of new fundraising initiatives and events;
- Work with the Treasurer to manage administrative aspects of fundraising including gift acknowledgement, donor communication, and database management.
Marketing and Communications - 20%
- Along with Scrag's Artistic Director and Board of Directors, serve as spokesperson for Scrag, presenting is mission and accomplishments In public arenas;
- Develop and execute long and short-term marketing plans;
- Manage the creation and dissemination of Scrag marketing materials (both print and digital);
- Spearhead the creation and dissemination of press releases and act as liaison between press and Scrag Artistic Director;
- Oversee the planning of and implementation of now marketing initiatives;
- Edit videos of performances;
- Maintain Scrag's website and social media channels.
Leadership and Management - 10%
- In partnership with Scrag's Artistic Director and Board of Directors, articulate the vision for the organization, promoting strategic growth, and direction:Represent, cultivate, and maintain Scrag's position as a national leader in innovative programing and creating artist experiences;
- Work with Artistic Director to support her priorities;
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the board;
- Cultivate an environment of flexibility and creativity:
- Manage future interns and support staff.
Qualifications
The Managing Director will be committed to Scrag Mountain Music’s mission. Candidates should have leadership, fundraising, marketing and relationship management experience.
Ideal candidate qualifications would include:
- Management experience
- Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and implemented strategies that have helped grow an organization
- Experience securing support from donors, foundations, corporations securing grants
- Experience in organizational management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives
- Experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors
- Marketing and public relations experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders utilizing a variety of platforms
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Integrity and positive attitude
- A self-directed person who is adaptable and innovative
- Interest in classical music and community engagement
- Technical skills including basic website maintenance, maintenance of donor database, social media experience, graphic layout experience, Quickbooks familiarity
Salary range: $ 28,000 - $ 34,000, contingent on experience
Position should average 15 hours per week. Time requirements vary
according to performance schedule and seasonal priorities. No
benefits.
