We’re hiring! We’re looking for a talented Manufacturing Controls Engineer to join our team.

QED Technologies serves the global precision optics industry with solutions for high performance polishing and metrology on the most demanding surfaces and materials. QED systems are utilized by the smallest to largest manufacturers supplying the SEMI, military, space, R&D, imaging, and other industries.

Summary

This is a newly created position which will provide support to Manufacturing/Operations, Quality, and Engineering groups in various capacities. This role will primarily be on site at our Rochester, NY office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implements Engineering Changes, which includes developing and updating drawings, entering BOM and Part Maintenance information into ERP system and tracking completion of all activities related to the change.
  • Develops validation plans to assure all controls and motion control requirements are properly implemented by suppliers.
  • Ensures machines are being properly built to all required standards, including NRTL, UL, NEC/NFPA, CE, and DGUV.
  • Reviews/debugs PLC code as necessary to solve problems
  • Identifies electrical and controls related spare parts.
  • Supports user manual development, cost reduction, and engineering change team efforts.
  • Develops or uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on electrical products and systems. Writes concise test reports with justifiable conclusions.
  • Confers with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation.
  • Supports Field Service Engineers with troubleshooting as needed. Follows up with support for bug reporting or quality improvements to equipment as required.
  • Ability to work “hands on”, such as correcting electrical control panel wiring when troubleshooting systems or wiring and building test fixtures.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical experience a plus).
  • PLC/CNC Development software (Rockwell/Allen Bradley and/or Siemens experience a plus).
  • Basic word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills are required.
  • Ability to read and write PLC and CNC code.
  • Adept using oscilloscopes, DVMs, spectrum analyzers.
  • Integration of mechanical/electrical/motion sensors into experiments and/or products.
  • Ability to read industrial control wiring schematics.
  • Familiar with high voltage, up to 480VAC three phase power systems, and working within industrial control enclosures.

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Technology with 4+ years of work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Travel

  • This position requires frequent visits to QED’s suppliers and machine builders, most of which are also in the Rochester, NY area.
  • Domestically and internationally may be required from time to time (typically < 5%) to perform the essential functions and responsibilities of this position.

Pay: $71,000.00 - $114,000.00 per year
