Overview
About QPD
QPD provides custom contract machining and manufacturing services serving the semi-conductor, life sciences, and other industries. At this time, we have two facility locations in Oregon. The Hillsboro location provides contract manufacturing services for prototyping, machining, and assembly with cleanroom capabilities. Our Cornelius facility provides precision sheet metal manufacturing, rounding out our ability to provide best in class full integration services to our customer base.
Position Snapshot
Our team is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support our sheet metal team. You will work directly with customers and suppliers to confirm compliance with manufacturer guidelines and make suggested improvements. In addition, this position will involve working directly with other QPD engineering team members and manufacturing teams to develop and release new products. Develops processes and oversees the production of sheet metal components and assemblies. Works with a variety of materials to develop processes to bring customer designed products to realization.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop new processes for customer designs, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, schematics, and other technical information as part of the product development process.
- Establish specifications and criteria for purchased components to facilitate the procurement process, including review of periodic substitution and/or alternative sourcing requests.
- Provide support to the production and quality teams during the manufacturing and testing processes.
- Provide timely and effective customer technical support.
- Work with manufacturing team to identify root cause and corrective action(s) for process-related issues.
- Responsible for understanding and translating information provided by customer drawings, specifications, and verbal direction into fabrication requirements including part tolerances, critical dimensions, and cosmetic and finishing standards.
- Responsible for preparing technical drawings (blueprints) used to build a variety of fabricated sheet metal parts. The Engineer will also assist shop workers when there is a need for additional instructions on the drawings.
- Responsible for maintaining and storing all technical drawings and their revisions in an organized electronic library.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Additional Duties

- ISO and OSHA compliance within your scope of work
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related activities as needed
- Follow all safety and quality requirements

Requirements
- BS in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of previous engineering experience performing design, analysis, and testing work required. Experience in contract manufacturing is a strong plus.
- Solid knowledge of understanding of design principles, such as bend radius, tolerances, and material constraints.
- Experience with 3D modeling software required. SolidWorks is preferred.
- Ability to read schematics and drawings.
- JobBoss experience is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Demonstrated successful project management experience.
- Strong hands-on work approach (independently or as part of the team) to discover and implement solutions.
- Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Extremely resourceful.
- Experience in DFM with customer interface
- Strong proven experience working in cross-functional teams such as quality, manufacturing and engineering
- Strong familiarity with the ISO9001 Quality Management Standard
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment that may include shifting priorities, demands and resources
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal and external people at all levels.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
- Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
Working Environment
Combination of office environment and a temperature-controlled production shop floor environment requiring sitting/standing for extended periods of time; ability to utilize office equipment such as computers and printers, frequent lifting up to 5 lbs, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs with assistance; occasionally crouching or bending at the knees. Personal protective equipment (safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, shields etc.) may be required. Exposure to moderate levels of noise on the shop floor in a well-lit, well-ventilated, and fast-paced setting.
Workload may be unpredictable, and pressure increased during peak times. Critical deadlines require considerable flexibility and adaptability. Disturbances of workflow and/or irregularities in work schedule may occur on an intermittent basis. Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, or holidays.
