Map Drafter

Summary:

The primary function of the map drafter is to create construction drawings and post as-builts using MicroStation drafting Software and NISC Mapwise for all telecommunications projects in the GVTC area. The projects include designs in fiber-to-the-home(FTTH), hybrid-fiber-coaxial (HFC), and DSL copper technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Sound expense control and expense management

• Create staking sheets for Outside Plant Designers and Field Stakers from hand sketches and/or GPS technology.
• Create permit sheets for the Right of way agent. The permit sheets are used to create TXdot and county permits.
• Assist assignments with discrepancies found on mapping system
• Post FTTH, HFC, and DSL assignment changes to mapping system
• Post FTTH, HFC, and DSL construction as-builts to the mapping system.
• Post FTTH, HFC, and DSL cable throws/rearrangements
• Post service relate drops
• Assist designers and stakers with various plots and drawings
• Assist field personnel with GPS
• Update of task logs on a daily basis
• Miscellaneous other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; College Degree preferred. 1 year experience with Bentley Communication with a solid working knowledge of telecommunications design or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Language Ability: Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with and solve problems using solid judgment skills.

Technical skills:

• PC and keyboarding skills required
• CAD skills required (NISC Mapwise skills preferred)
• GPS and GIS data gathering knowledge required
• Basic Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required

Pay: $46,723.00 - $60,085.00 per year
