BASIC FUNCTION: Communicate and publicize on a regular basis NSAA programs, benefits, resources, and content to its membership through all available and relevant channels in a professional manner. Act as a primary NSAA spokesperson.


  • Strong leadership skills: ability to share vision, develop talent and inspire a small team (NSAA Journal editor-in-chief and marketing manager).
  • Provide overall direction and oversight and communicate regularly with NSAA Journal editor.
  • Oversee NSAA marketing manager, including overall direction for websites, newsletters and social media plan and channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Primary media contact: Be accessible to media and sensitive to their requests while always considering and having the best interest of our members in mind.
  • Establish a good working relationship with writers/outside media.
  • Maintain an updated media contact list, including relevant print and digital publications, industry writers, and broadcast meteorologists.
  • In the event of a ski area crisis, be available to assist members, including with media responses, information flow, gathering facts and data, and assisting members with the development of statements they may make to the press.
  • Work with entire NSAA team to understand their marketing and communication needs and integrate into the overall plan.
  • Propose, on an ongoing basis, ideas and strategies for marketing NSAA programs, resources and events to existing members. Establish ways to quantify members’ engagement with NSAA and gauge their overall satisfaction with the organization.
  • Continued development of marketing programs to reach NSAA non-members (ski areas, suppliers and other appropriate entities). Work with the president/CEO to establish benchmarks for increasing membership.
  • Maintain NSAA’s tone, voice and presence whenever speaking to the NSAA membership or externally, and through all forms of communication and mediums. Ensure that all communications meet NSAA’s standards and expectations for professionalism.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members and regional ski associations to develop ideas for marketing initiatives.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the NSAA website, research data, programs and other resources to share with members and media when appropriate, in a timely fashion.
  • Understand, and respect, the sensitive and confidential nature of information shared with the individual or NSAA that may involve risk management, proprietary ski area information, insurance claims, industry data and other information—and know when and when not to disclose such information.
  • Maintain good industry relations by representing NSAA and our membership at events, and confidently speak about newsworthy subjects that will earn snowsports industry media exposure. Stay on top of industry issues, and reinforce NSAA’s role in the broader industry. Highlight member success stories and their achievements. Study and be familiar with trends and developments in the ski industry.
  • Maintain an active rapport with non-industry as well as industry marketing experts to gain insight into new and innovative marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Actively assist with marketing programs like, National Safety Month, Sustainable Slopes, etc.
  • Monitor and develop NSAA style and branding guidelines, as needed. Assist NSAA staff with implementation.
  • Write and edit news releases, pitch stories and coordinate public relations materials and member communications. Review the content of marketing materials, as needed.
  • Participate in the creation of informational content for NSAA fulfillment items and program materials.
  • Overall direction of websites with a goal of providing fresh, user-friendly website content, development and analytics to increase use by members.
  • Direct and/or coordinate photo shoots, video content, webinars, podcasts, broadcast emails and direct email communications, and/or any other medium necessary to provide relevant content to our members.


QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication or other appropriate discipline, plus 3-5 years of relevant experience in resort marketing, communications, public relations or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

  • Broad base of general knowledge and skills related to marketing, public relations and communications.
  • Strong speaking skills, and ability to conduct effective interviews both on and off camera.
  • Excellent public relations skills, along with strong writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good planning, administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to represent the association and deal effectively with the media and a wide variety of outside organizations in a public relations capacity.
  • Knowledge of the travel and sports media.
  • Previous ski industry experience desirable.
  • Ability to travel several times a year.
  • Strong Office Suite, Adobe Suite and CMS experience with graphic design skills a plus.
  • Experience with MailChimp, contact management and segmentation a plus.
  • Experience with Meta Business suite or other social media planning software.
  • Experience with GA4 or Universal Analytics a plus.
  • Ability to analyze social, email and web analytics and use insights to develop future strategy

The Marketing and Communications Director is a full-time position, office-based in Lakewood, CO. Once familiar with NSAA operations, there is potential for periodic (regularly scheduled) remote work.
