Organization and Role Summary

Mary's Path changes lives Two at a Time. Pregnant and parenting teenage moms in the foster care system are placed with us. These young women, many of whom have experienced trauma, find a safe place to heal, build relationships, and prepare for a successful future. We aim to break the cycle of poverty and abuse, empowering teen moms to live lives of dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency.

The Maternal Mental Health Therapist/0-5 Child Psychotherapist will work with residents to enhance parenting and attachment, focusing on maternal mental health and early childhood development. This role involves providing trauma-informed, evidence-based mental health services tailored to the unique needs of mothers and their children.

Role Responsibilities

** This position carries a manageable caseload of 7-16 clients.**

  • Provide time-limited individual, group, and family therapy to clients and their families.
  • Completes a strengths-based, biopsychosocial mental health assessment and Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths Assessment (CANS) for youth admitted to the STRTP.
  • Partners with youth to complete a mental health treatment plan that includes the youth's goals and preferences for services and mental health services appropriate to meet the needs of the youth.
  • Meet with youth at least weekly to work on identified goals.
  • Completes monthly treatment plan reviews.
  • Partner with youth in promoting the involvement of family and other informal and formal supports.
  • Partner with youth in maintaining relationships with permanent support people and identifying opportunities to strengthen these relationships.
  • Provide collateral services to youth's significant support people.
  • Provide group therapy and rehabilitation services within the STRTP milieu.
  • Partner with youth in identifying community resources.
  • Coordinate and partner with other STRTP staff to achieve treatment and independent living goals.
  • Partner with youth in identifying obstacles to meeting educational, vocational, social, and independent living goals. Develop strategies to overcome these barriers.
  • Completes documentation in line with all applicable agency, county, state, and regulatory requirements and timelines.
  • Complete transition determination plans and partner with youth in acquiring access to resources including, but not limited to, health care, employment, housing, social security benefits, etc., as needed.
  • Participates in regular team meetings.
  • Provides consultation to maternal mental health counselor and child development staff.
  • Provides evidence-based specialty mental health services, including individual and group therapy, directly to youth placed at the STRTP.
  • Facilitates clinical training to STRTP employees and provides clinical consultation to the team as needed.
  • Facilitates family therapy and skills, including strengthening parenting skills, as needed.
  • Participates in crisis services and emergency intervention protocols as needed.
  • Serves as a community liaison with county workers, medical providers, and legal representatives.
  • Develops interagency and community network relationships that improve access to relevant community services and benefits.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Work with the treatment team to provide individualized service plans, such as counseling and case management services, to ensure the stability of clients and families in the community.
  • Coach milieu/counselor staff on mental health interventions and skill-building activities.
  • Assist in the design of group rehabilitation curricula.
  • Provide case management services to clients on the caseload.
  • Participate in, and when necessary, facilitate, the Child and Family Team meetings, treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and IEP meetings.
  • Provide clinical services to clients on the caseload.
  • Complete assessments, treatment plans, functional behavioral assessments, progress notes, monthly reports, discharge summaries, and other CCL or Medi-Cal required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain client charts and records to Utilization Review standards.
  • Maintain close communication with all treatment team members.
  • Participate in weekly individual and/or group supervision as required.
  • Attend and participate in all training as assigned.
  • Coordinate treatment team meetings within the facility.
  • Always maintain professional behavior, appropriately representing the agency's mission and philosophy.

All other duties assigned by the supervisor or other leadership team members.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree in Social Work/Psychology/Counseling
  • Minimum of ASW, APCC or AMFT registration required
  • Experience working with children in out-of-home care, crisis assessment, management, and interventions, preferred
  • Able to work independently in the office and in the community, maintaining a high sense of accountability and self-management
  • Able to work with a diverse population, build trust, possess interpersonal savvy and demonstrate cultural competency
  • Deep experience in working collaboratively, and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Adept at managing through conflict and complexity, and working proactively
  • Good organizational and writing skills
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated strength in exhibiting the following competencies: collaboration, empathy, resilience, situational adaptability and valuing the differences across diverse populations
  • Fingerprint clearances
  • Own vehicle, valid California Driver's License and insurance
  • Strong preference for individuals with Medi-Cal documentation/billing experience
  • Experience working with probation youth strongly preferred
  • Bilingual skills are preferred

This role will travel relevant to fieldwork-related job duties, within a 30-mile radius
