Systems West Engineers (SWE) is seeking a licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer to join our consulting engineering firm in the role of Mechanical Department Head.

We are a team of skilled engineers, designers, technicians, and support staff who are also bicycle commuters, photographers, volunteers, DIY fanatics, gardeners, skiers, hikers, and tinkerers. As both colleagues and friends, we enjoy working together to bring enthusiasm and a team-oriented focus on each strategically selected project.

The right-fit candidate has proven technical knowledge depth across mechanical building systems and enjoys developing people, processes, and standards. To be successful in this role at SWE, this position requires the candidate to have knowledge and experience in a variety of institutional facilities and building systems. Preferred system experience includes:

This is a full time, exempt position. Competitive salary range of $115,000 - $125,000, DOE. Comprehensive benefits package including company performance bonus, health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plan with annual employer contributions.


  • Proven knowledge across various mechanical building systems and building types
  • Degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent with 15 years of industry experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration
  • Previous experience supervising and mentoring staff
  • Oregon relocation required. This position requires on-site, in-office responsibilities with a hybrid flex option.
