Role Summary

Mary's Path changes lives Two at a Time. Pregnant and parenting teenage moms in the foster care system are placed with us. These teen moms who have been abused/neglected/trafficked for sex find a safe place to heal from their trauma, get back on the path to finish high school, and learn to be loving parents. We aim to break the cycle of poverty and abuse and show these teen moms they can live lives of dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency. As a Mental Health Counselor, you will provide mental health counseling, behavioral intervention, support, crisis intervention and skill building services to children and families with significant mental health issues that impact their ability to function in the community. You are a member of the program treatment team and provide significant value to Mary’s Path’s clients and families. In this role, you will provide services both at the STRTP and in the community as needed, e.g., in families' homes, schools, etc. You’ll report to the Lead Mental Health Counselor.

Organization and Role Responsibilities

Client Care

▪ Meet with clients and caregivers several times a week to further treatment goals. This may include behavior management techniques

▪ Work with the treatment team to provide individualized service plans, such as counseling and case management services, to ensure stability of clients and families in the community

▪ Assist clients in navigating systems to access needed services

▪ Advocate for clients' needs and preferences within the care team and other systems

▪ Support clients in making positive behavioral changes, developing problem-solving skills and setting healthy boundaries

▪ Be an active member of the Child and Family Team

▪ Provide on-call coverage to the clients and their families

▪ Maintain close communication with all treatment team members

▪ Participate in all treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and IEP meetings when necessary

▪ Assist with planning and providing of transportation for school, therapy appointments, and court hearings as needed

▪ Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including but not limited to progress notes, clinical forms, time sheets, and mileage

▪ Participate in weekly supervision with the program supervisor or designee

▪ Maintain professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing the agency's mission and philosophy

▪ All other duties assigned by the Lead Mental Health Counselor or Clinical Director

Qualifications and Experience

▪ Bachelor's degree in a human service-related field required

▪ Minimum 1 year experience in working with emotionally disturbed children in out of home care, preferred

▪Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written

▪ Adept at working with diverse population and cultural competency, demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence and situational adaptability

▪ Demonstrated strength in exhibiting the following competencies: collaboration, empathy, resilience, situational adaptability and valuing the differences across diverse populations

▪ Able to engage with and build trust with diverse populations, and possess cultural competency

▪ Excellent at managing complexity, using good judgment and demonstrating proactivity

▪ Able to work flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

▪ Able to respond to crisis situations and be part of a rotating emergency pager system

▪ Able to work collaboratively and work as part of a multidisciplinary team

▪ Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion

▪ High accountability and self-management

▪ Fingerprint clearances

▪ Has reliable vehicle, California driver's license and insurance

▪ Spanish fluency preferred

Work Location/Travel Requirements This role will travel relevant to job duties, within a 30-mile radius.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
