Purpose

Step by Step Supportive Services (SxS) empowers adults who deal with significant mental health challenges to lead enriching lives on their own terms. In our holistic approach to care, we respect individual choice and dignity, consider all facets of an individual’s life, and encourage the collaborative support of family and loved ones. We strive to support each individual in tapping into their unique strengths to build greater self-reliance, healthy interdependence, and opportunities to participate fully in community life.​

We are looking to hire another part-time Mental Health Worker to join our dynamic team. We are looking for candidates that have availability primarily in the afternoons and evenings several days during the week between 1-7pm. This is an ideal position for individuals interested in gaining more mental health experience before or while pursuing a master's degree program (i.e. social work, mental health counseling).

Responsibilities

  • Support SxS clients through development and facilitation of individual and group programming consistent with a Holistic Wellness Approach. The SxS Holistic Wellness Approach focuses on the connection between the mind, body and soul and the importance of nurturing these parts of self to treat the whole person. Aspects of the Holistic Wellness Approach include but are not limited to;
  • Providing clinical care to individual clients which may include symptom management support, executive functioning coaching and vocational support.
  • Assisting clients with meeting long-term and short-term ISP goals and completing documentation as appropriate
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with local organizations for potential volunteer and/or vocational placements for clients.
  • Planning, facilitating, and executing all aspects of the wellness program, including gym trips, additional exercise opportunities, monthly wellness seminars, and educational nutrition support. Empower clients in discovering their motivation for building healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Supporting the entire M.E.A.L.S. Program four days a week in choosing healthy, balanced recipes and be accountable for overall nutrition. The M.E.A.L.S. Program emphasizes the DASH diet, which has shown to decrease depressive symptoms, as well as eating a plate rich with fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.
  • Coordinate and facilitate evening community meals and facilitate conversation and cleanup amongst guests.
  • Providing education and guidance to clients on the impact of nutrition and exercise on mental health through monthly wellness seminars and recipe and meal planning for M.E.A.L.S. program and additional events.
  • Planning and facilitating all social programming including Friday Movie Nights, Saturday Excursions, and in-house social groups such as Coffee Social Hour and Sunday Evening Leisure Group. Track weekly program expenses to inform the overall programming budget managed by the Clinical Director.
  • Supporting new admits to the SxS program in acclimating to the community and coordinating the peer mentorship program.
  • Planning at least three community service projects each year with joint client & staff input/participation.
  • Encourage clients to exhibit appropriate behavior, assist with daily living skills education, and demonstrate constructive personal and social relationships. Assist clients with constructive time management.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, weekly individual supervision, and additional meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Provide transportation for clients as needed to medical or other appointments, classes, gym, Friday/Saturday activities, etc.
  • Complete all documentation for individual client meetings and group programming within 48 hours of service.
  • Complete designated program-specific, shift-specific tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant human services field.
  • At least one year of experience.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to consistently meet all necessary background and credentialing requirements.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license. Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
