Job Type: Full-time, Exempt

Join Systems West Engineers – Where Problem-Solving Powers Performance

At Systems West Engineers (SWE), we don’t just troubleshoot systems—we optimize them for long-term performance. We’re looking for an MEP Systems Commissioning Engineer to join our Bend, Oregon-based team. In this role, you'll bring hands-on expertise in HVAC/MEP systems to tackle performance issues, guide technical teams, and deliver commissioning and optimization solutions that elevate building performance.

You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team that values both technical rigor and client relationships, and you’ll play a key role in improving systems across hospitals, labs, and complex facilities.

Why SWE?

  • Work alongside engineers and technical specialists who love solving tough problems
  • See your work make a difference in real-time building performance
  • Join a company where values like pursuing excellence, supporting community, and thinking creatively guide our everyday decisions
  • Flexible, hybrid schedules with a local-first approach
  • Leadership growth opportunities in technical and project lead roles

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support field-based commissioning, retro-commissioning, and performance evaluations
  • Diagnose and optimize HVAC and MEP systems, including controls and sequences
  • Develop functional test procedures, perform system testing, and verify operation
  • Identify energy-saving measures and operational deficiencies
  • Write clear technical reports summarizing findings and recommendations
  • Collaborate with clients, design teams, and contractors to solve issues and deliver results
  • Support development of technical tools, templates, and processes for project execution

You Might Be a Fit If You Have:

  • 6+ years of experience in HVAC design, commissioning, controls, or field diagnostics
  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, or related field
  • Knowledge of sequences of operation, TAB/BAS processes, and field troubleshooting
  • Experience with central systems (boilers, chillers, steam, air handling units)
  • Familiarity with healthcare, laboratory, or high-performance buildings preferred
  • Ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and document findings effectively

Bonus if you have:

  • PE or EIT certification
  • CxA or other commissioning credentials (or interest in obtaining one)
  • Energy modeling or BAS trending experience

Work Environment & Location

This position is based out of our Bend, Oregon office. Most team members operate on a flexible hybrid schedule, balancing in-office time, site visits, and remote work. We require regular presence in Bend and local project regions, so the candidate should reside within a commutable distance or be willing to relocate. Relocation support may be offered for the right candidate.

Career Growth

This is a technical role with a path toward Project Lead, Senior Engineer, and other leadership opportunities. We support certification, mentorship, and professional development aligned with your goals.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Competitive salary range at $90,000 - $110,000, DOE.
  • Annual bonus tied to company and individual performance.
  • 401(k) with employer matching and profit-sharing contributions.
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave and PTO.
  • Professional development assistance.
  • Flexible schedules and a supportive team culture.
