SUMMARY:

Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation (Yocha Dehe or Tribe) is a federally recognized tribal government. The Tribe’s mission is to provide for the health and welfare of its people, to govern its own lands and affairs with sovereign independence and in a manner consistent with its cultural values, and to enhance and diversify its economy for the overall good of the nation. Yocha Dehe’s governing body, its elected Tribal Council, is charged with implementing this mission. As a federally recognized tribe, Yocha Dehe exercises a government-to-government relationship with the United States, as well as with the State of California and local governments, and the Tribe actively engages with outside agencies and officials, local stakeholders and members of the public.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Mill Assistant will be involved with numerous activities concerning Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation’s Séka Hills brand olive oil product from field to bottle, custom milling for clients and equipment maintenance by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely operates the mill while working extended shifts during milling season as scheduled by the Mill Manager.
  • Prior to harvest season, works closely with the Farm Foreman and the Mill Manager to effectively perform preventative maintenance on mill and farm equipment.
  • Cleans, maintains, diagnoses and repairs machines, and equipment included but not limited to milling, farming, HVAC and refrigeration equipment and systems related to processing and storage facilities, ensuring equipment meets operational and food safety standards.
  • Works in coordination with the Warehouse Associate on warehouse and bottling activities.
  • Works with growers, harvesters and seasonal labor.
  • Racks oil per schedule, cleans tanks and maintains oil quality.
  • Frequently operates vehicles for delivery and for pick up purposes.
  • Assists with welding and fabrication of machinery
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job requires the general supervision of contracted seasonal laborers during milling season.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Six months of experience in milling operations or another agricultural field, preferred. Must have experience and a demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Experience with Human Machine Interface Systems preferred. Knowledge of the olive oil industry, preferred.

Communication and Comprehension Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills in person, by phone and by email using professional and courteous etiquette with sensitivity to the diversity of a multi-cultural audience and with cultural sensitivity. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, operating and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to speak and understand Spanish fluently is preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions. Ability to work independently and manage schedules/time.

Computer Skills

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications with the ability to use word processing, multimedia, email, spreadsheets, and database management software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Individuals must be able to successfully pass the Tribal Gaming Agency (TGA) Background Check. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Tribe’s insurance carrier. Must obtain and maintain forklift certification.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and manipulate (lift/carry) up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must have sufficient hand-eye coordination, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to operate equipment and read technical and safety information. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have a trained keen sense of smell and taste to properly monitor the olive oil production.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations. Ability to perform duties both outside and inside in varying conditions including extreme heat, extreme cold and wet and/or humid, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ability to utilize fall protection equipment to ascend ladders and work above ground in excess of 30 feet.

Additional Conditions of Employment

Must have the ability to travel up to 10% of the time. Must be able to work with diverse population and with cultural sensitivity. Must be willing to sign the Tribe’s Non-Disclosure, Non-Disparagement and Confidentiality Agreement. Recognizes and maintains confidentiality.
