Full job description
The International Institute for Nanotechnology (IIN) at Northwestern University invites applications for the position of Research Associate. This position will provide scientific oversight, strategic management, and support for funded research efforts focused on materials discovery via high throughput synthesis and characterization modalities. We are seeking highly motivated individuals to help oversee a research team of graduate students and postdocs to achieve project goals.
Notes: This position is full-time and in person on the Evanston campus at Northwestern University.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Ensures project goals and objectives of awards are being met;
- Submits documents to a variety of individuals, organizations, and agencies to meet critical deadlines;
- Ensures that technical information is easily accessible to a variety of audiences by tailoring scientific information and content;
- Interacts with faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, and others on strategy for and development of documents for agencies;
- Develop and implement effective tracking systems for complex workflows;
- Organize, attend, and oversee frequent meetings with key collaborators and research teams;
- Represent the IIN to faculty, administrators, visitors, partners, governmental representatives, funders, and others;
- Regularly communicate research progress and findings to the IIN Leadership and Scientific Teams;
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Ph.D. in a field of science related to engineering, nanotechnology, materials science, chemistry or physics;
- At least three years of related work experience;
- Extremely strong writing abilities;
- Exceptional overall communication skills;
- Proven track record of producing high-quality academic publications and presentations;
- Ability to work well independently and on teams in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
- Highly self-motivated and proactive;
- High competence in solving complex problems;
- Extremely organized, responsible, adaptable, and committed to excellence;
