Job Overview
The Boys and Girls Club of Henderson County is seeking a dedicated and passionate Nutrition Associate Assistant to join our team. The Nutrition Associate Assistant will play a crucial role in promoting health and wellness among the youth we serve by providing nutritional education, guidance, and support. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young individuals while fostering a culture of well-being and healthy habits.
Note: there is the possibility that this role transitions into a full-time opportunity within 6 months
Duties
- Nutritional Education: Support the development and implementation of age-appropriate nutritional education programs, workshops, and activities for youth members. Teach fundamental concepts of balanced nutrition, healthy eating habits, portion control, and the importance of consuming a variety of foods.
- Menu Planning and Assessment: Collaborate with the program team to plan and evaluate nutritious and balanced meals and snacks for youth participants. Ensure meals or snacks align with dietary guidelines and restrictions, incorporating locally sourced and seasonal ingredients whenever possible.
- Cooking Demonstrations: Conduct interactive cooking demonstrations to showcase healthy meal preparation techniques and recipes. Encourage youth to actively participate in cooking activities, fostering practical culinary skills and confidence.
- Individual Consultations: Provide one-on-one or small group nutritional consultations for youth members with specific dietary needs or health goals. Offer personalized guidance to help them make informed food choices and develop healthy eating plans.
- Nutritional Resource Management: Curate and maintain a collection of educational resources and materials related to nutrition, health, and wellness. Distribute information to youth members and their families to extend the impact of the nutritional education programs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other program associates and coordinators to integrate nutritional concepts into various Boys and Girls Club activities, including sports, arts, and academic programs.
- Youth Engagement and Behavior Management: Motivate and keep youth engaged in nutritional activities while effectively managing behaviors. Utilize group leadership skills and an understanding of group dynamics to create a positive and inclusive environment.
- Interpersonal Skills and Cultural Sensitivity: Interact effectively with co-workers, teen members, and the community. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, valuing diversity in all interactions.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of budgets, inventories, program participation, outcomes, and individual progress. Assist in generating reports to track the effectiveness of nutritional education initiatives.
- Community Outreach: Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and health agencies to extend the reach of nutritional education programs and build partnerships that support youth wellness.
Requirements
- Experience in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or related field is preferred.
- Experience working with youth in an educational or mentorship capacity.
- Strong knowledge of nutritional principles, dietary guidelines, and meal planning.
- Ability to motivate and keep youth engaged while effectively managing behaviors.
- Ability to plan and implement quality youth programs.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Culturally sensitive and mission-driven in all interactions. Valuing diversity is a must.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
