Full job description

Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA), an intergovernmental risk pool, is recruiting an experienced occupational risk and safety professional to join its team in Lisle, IL to provide risk management consultation to our member agencies. This position – titled Risk Management Consultant – is critical to our mission of assisting our members with keeping their staff and patrons safe and well, protecting and preserving their property, and reducing the financial impact of losses. In this role, you will work closely with local government park and recreation agencies to mitigate property and casualty risk through virtual and on-site assessment and education, as well as collaborate internally to produce risk management training materials and educational programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct virtual and on-site risk evaluations of facilities and operations.
  • Consult with member agency park and recreation representatives to develop action plans that address risks.
  • Investigate claims and work collaboratively with members to execute post-loss initiatives.
  • Conduct risk management training on specialized topics such as employee injury prevention, fleet safety, playground and day camp risk mitigation, property conservation, and aquatics facilities and programs.
  • Work with the Risk Management Services team to develop risk management resources, training materials and technical documents.

Requirements

Required

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Risk Management, or related field from an accredited 4-year university.

Experience

  • 5+ years of progressively more responsible professional work experience implementing a comprehensive loss control program, preferably for an intergovernmental risk management pool.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current occupational safety and health regulations, workers compensation, employee safety, ergonomic principles, industrial hygiene, loss control including loss prevention and loss reduction techniques, hazard identification, accident investigation and government operations.
  • Analytical skills necessary to analyze technical data, loss experience reports, state and federal statutory provisions, unique loss causation reports, industry research and statistical data.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License, and the ability to frequently travel locally and occasionally state-wide.

Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of park and recreation operations, programs and management structure.
  • Proficiency with insurance claim and risk control management software.

Certifications

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM).
  • Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS).
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI).
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or equivalent.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid.
