Full job description
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Operations and Communications Director (OC) is responsible for the daily and ongoing operations of NRC, membership program recruitment and management, and events coordination. The OC has responsibility for a wide range of matters supporting the essential ongoing operations of NRC, including but not limited to internal functions such as administrative activities and office management, operational policies and procedures, compliance and financial reporting obligations, invoice and payment processing, contract management and administration, membership program management (database, programs, and events), event coordination, communications, and marketing management. This role requires excellent financial management skills, persuasive written and verbal communication, exceptional interpersonal, and multidisciplinary project skills. An action-oriented, strategic, adaptable, and innovative approach to organizational planning is essential.
A degree in business, public administration, or communications with previous management experience; or 4-year degree with a track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization with a similar mission is required. Supervisory experience is required.
Essential Job Functions
Finance and Operations
- Administrative duties including, but not limited to, incoming requests for technical assistance via phone calls, emails, and meetings; Maintain accurate records for grant reporting.
- Develop, oversee and administer human resources functions including payroll, benefits, and other legal requirements.
- Perform administrative and operational accounting services such as grants payment processing, accounts payable, employee reimbursement, and purchasing, while maintaining accounting records.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process with oversight of the executive director.
- Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
- Effectively communicate and present critical financial and communications matters at select board of directors’ meetings.
- Build, coach, and strengthen relationships/partnerships with current and potential funders, state and local agencies, elected officials, service providers, NRC Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Recycling Equipment Grants Committee, NRC members and constituents, and organizations relevant to NRC's mission and objectives. Contribute to the development of Nebraska Recycling Council’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization
Communications and Membership:
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of educational and informational materials for all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, social media, press releases, and monthly newsletters.
- Coordinate high quality events such as conferences, webinars, and fundraising campaigns in coordination with ED.
- Track, measure, and strategically build the level of engagement within the network over time.
- Assist the Executive Director to develop and implement the membership program to ensure successful recruitment, stewardship, and retention through:
- Manage the annual renewal process for existing members.
- Develop and maintain a membership contact database.
- Develop and manage the membership services.
- Develop and maintain welcome materials.
- Research and develop programs designed to help communities achieve waste management and waste diversion best practices and goals. Collaborate with a range of stakeholders to aid, recommend, and evaluate recycling and waste management programs.

- Review and contribute articles and publications distributed from Nebraska Recycling Council.
- Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
- Contribute to strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising initiatives to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.

Essential Requirements
- Valid Nebraska Driver’s License, ability to reliability travel as needed
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Rippling (or related HR software), Constant Contact, NeonOne (or other donor management software) and Microsoft Office Professional Suite
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with WordPress preferred
- Grant management experience is preferred.
Compensation, Benefits and Location
Compensation for this position is $42,000-$52,000 based on experience, plus benefits. This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate for this position will work in a hybrid with an office based in Lincoln, NE.
