OR circulator needed for multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center for FT position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certifications:
Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing with current, unincumbered State of Louisiana Registered Nursing License. Current BLS certification required upon hire. ACLS and PALS certification required within 90 days of hire, if not already certified.
Experience:
Preferably minimum 2 years operating room experience.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to move upper extremities within full range of motion as well as stoop and bend at 90 degrees. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.

The exposure risk to bloodborne pathogens is great.
Language Skills: Speaking voice that has good quality and tone; speech that is understandable.
STANDARDS OF PRE-OPERATIVE CARE:
Initiates and accomplishes preoperative assessment of the patient prior to surgery.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
____A. Always introduces self to patient.
____B. Identifies patient by checking ID band and verbal validation.
____C. Verbally validates procedure with patient and checks surgical consent for accuracy.
____D. Verbally validates that patient has been seen by the anesthesia provider.
____E. Verbally validates that patient has been identified by surgeon.
____F. Checks for necessary lab tests.
____G. Checks for completed history and physical.
____H. Uses patient assessment data to record pertinent information accurately and completely.
STANDARDS OF CARE:
Plans, prepares, and implements intraoperative patient care.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
____A. Collects sterile supplies, equipment, and medication for the intraoperative phase of patient care.
____B. Verifies proper functioning of equipment. Removes improperly functioning equipment from the area and reports to appropriate personnel.
____C. Utilizes surgeon’s preference cards and makes appropriate changes to ensure that the information is current.
____D. Collects and obtains special equipment as indicated to specific patient needs.
____E. Assures that room and equipment are clean prior to opening sterile supplies.
____F. Verifies sterility of sterile items before placing on sterile field.
____G. Notifies supervisor of surgeons’ requests.
____H. Communicates changes in instrument trays, supplies, and physician preferences to other staff members.
____I. Utilizes peers, as necessary, to aid in accomplishing tasks.
____J. Determines appropriate priorities for activities.
____K. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
____L. Assists in transporting patient to OR.
____M. Assures safety in transferring patient on and off the OR table.
____N. Assists anesthesia provider as necessary.
____O. Assures safe positioning of patient for maximum exposure of operative site.
____P. Collaborates with anesthesia provider to ensure patient maintains normothermia.
____Q. Continuously monitors the patient and recognizes the need to obtain assistance for the initiation of emergency measures.
____R. Conscientiously observes and reports any breaks in sterility and takes corrective action immediately unless the patient’s safety is at risk.
____S. Provides additional supplies for use by the operative team as necessary.
____T. Documents intraoperative nursing care.
____U. Writes incident reports appropriately.
____V. Assists in quality improvement monitoring.
____W. Assures that sponge, sharp, and instrument counts are accurate and documented.
____X. Accompanies patient to PACU and reports to PACU nurse the patient’s condition, history, and operative procedure.
____Y. Functions in scrub roll as necessary.
____Z. Keeps calm and functions well in emergencies.
STANDARDS OF CARE:
Assists in the daily maintenance of the department.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
____A. Restocks assigned room at the end of each day.
____B. Helps to restock sterile supplies as needed.
____C. Pulls cases as needed.
____D. Assists in completing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance checks.
STANDARDS OF CARE:

Ergonomics.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
____A. Minimum amount of heavy lifting for this position. Must lift instrument trays, move equipment, and assist with the transfer of patients from one location to another.
____B. Uses good posture and body mechanics when lifting or putting physical stress on the body.
Other duties may be assigned by the immediate manager/supervisor and/or Administrator.
