Youth Co-Op, Inc., a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the social and economic conditions of youth, adults, families, refugees and immigrants in South Florida, is seeking Paralegal for its Immigration Program in Miami-Dade County.

Paralegal will provide support to the Managing Attorney and Immigration Department staff in the preparation of the case files including completing required documents and providing interpretation/translation for clients when necessary. Perform outreach in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities Overview

  • Provide administrative support to Immigration Department;
  • Effectively communicate with clients;
  • Attend meetings and keep notes;
  • Write and Research legal related tasks.
  • Conduct documentary research of immigration records;
  • Prepare immigration legal documents such as forms, indexes, and related matters;
  • Preserve an updated case record system;
  • Answer phone calls, take notes/messages and redirect calls when appropriate;
  • Maintain and update inventories of contact details using client database tools;
  • Facilitate the meeting of deadlines by using case management systems, including using office technology and provide timely reminders;

Skills:

  • Proven experience as a legal assistant;
  • Knowledge of immigration system;
  • Knowledge of MS Office and ability to work with legal technology;
  • Working knowledge of immigration forms software systems is a plus;
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish required;
  • Outstanding time-management and typing skills;
  • Ability to multitask and being comfortable dealing with a diverse pool of people;

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree;
  • Fluency in Spanish;
  • 1 to 2 years of paralegal or legal assistant or comparable experience in immigration law;
  • Prior BIA Accreditation preffered
