Full job description
Tamassee DAR School is a non-profit children’s home and family service organization that has been a place of hope, healing and learning for children in need for 100 years. At Tamassee DAR School it is all about the children and their families! We seek professional servant-minded people that desire to be a part of our child-centered and family-focused environment.
Position Summary: This position is responsible for working with mothers and their infants/children around healthy parenting, healthy attachment and ensuring strong child development, reducing risk of child abuse and neglect. Performs assessments, develops parenting plans, facilitate parenting education, assists in parenting crisis situations and helps develop healthy culturally responsive relationships. The overall goal is to provide a long-term, residential and therapeutic community for women and their children to break adverse cycles and rebuild their families.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Commit to and implement the TDARS faith-based, Christ-centered program values and statement of faith.
- Assist with facilitating healthy and positive interactions for mothers and their children in a culturally supportive way.
- Empowering and building skills in program participants to positively and proactively engage in their child’s development and education.Plan, coordinate, and lead parenting classes, children support groups/activities. Facilitates parenting and child development assessments and education groups.
- Assist women with developing and carrying out their individual parenting plans with the goal of reducing risk of child neglect or abuse and increasing effective & heathy parenting outcomes.
- Will facilitate strong communications and connections with all appropriate entities in the coordination of children’s care.
- Is knowledgeable about typical ages and stages of children and reports any concerns about children’s development to the Therapeutic team. Considers and incorporates cultural perspective in evaluating development and parenting approaches.
- Is aware of signs of emotional distress, child abuse and neglect and complies with mandatory reporting procedures for child abuse and neglect.
- Shows professional work habits by keeping spoken and written information confidential, respects others, uses time well and is dependable.
- Guides children in resolving conflict through positive strategies and communication.
- Works with families to provide consistent behavior management of children in conjunction with their family values and cultural beliefs.
- Responsible for researching and documenting program strategies to meet accreditation guidelines for the program and to assure children are receiving quality services.
- Participates in weekly staffing meetings and assists with special projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor
- Attends at least two training sessions per year on cultural competency
- Will be required to work evenings and/or weekend hours to support the success of the program
- Mobilize program participants to implement plans that advance the goals they have for their families.
- Work closely with human service agencies and other community partners to build intentional partnerships so that participants can meet their goal
