Full job description

Job Description

Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is looking to fill a position for a full-time PCB Layout Designer. Teal is a rapidly growing technology company focused on creating worldclass system solutions serving a broad range of applications for design and development of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS drones) for use in defense, public safety, and other government security organizations.

As a PCB Layout Designer, you will work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to create complex printed circuit boards (PCBs). During especially busy times, the layout workload may need to be distributed to outside contractors, who will be managed collaboratively between the PCB Layout Designer and the electrical engineers. This role is the go-to for defining and maintaining design rules, providing guidance on fabrication and assembly drawing notes, and being the authority on footprint design, with a focus on camera systems.

This role reports to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

  • Coordinate and manage external contract layout resources as needed
  • Communicate with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors to understand their process capabilities
  • Define CAD design rules
  • Execute detailed PCB routing on rigid, rigid-flex, and flex substrates
  • Perform delay matching of high-speed busses

  • Experience with large pin count (>200) and tight pitch BGAs (0.35, 0.4mm)
  • Experience with HDI (blind and buried vias, laser microvias)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods while performing design and layout tasks.
  • Fine motor skills and dexterity to handle small components and tools, especially during PCB assembly and inspection.
  • Capability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds, such as equipment, tools, or supplies.
  • Visual acuity to accurately perform tasks involving detailed work with electronic components and PCBs, including the use of microscopes or magnifying tools.
  • Proficient hand-eye coordination to draw and review PCB layouts and library footprints.
  • Stamina to work in various positions, including sitting for long hours at a computer workstation.
