About the Role:
We are seeking a Peer Support Specialist to support families of students with
disabilities and the professionals who serve them as they navigate public service
systems, including the special education systems, by offering information and
referral, education and training and peer support.
Key Responsibilities:
● Respond to family and caregiver requests for information and support.
● Assist families in identifying needs in education and human services.
● Educate families about their rights and responsibilities.
● Promote leadership and self-advocacy among parents.
● Provide accurate, up-to-date information and resources.
● Document all interactions in the database.
● Collaborate with professionals across education, early intervention and
human services.
● Build and maintain partnerships with key agencies.
● Participate in training and act as a positive brand ambassador.
Preferred Experience:
● Preferred any experience in navigating the Special Education System in
public schools.
● Individuals with disabilities or complex medical needs or their family
members are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
● Familiarity with special education and early intervention systems.
● Understanding of Medicaid waiver services, Flexible Family Funding, and
related resources.
● Basic knowledge of Medicaid and Social Security systems is a plus.
● Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, email, and calendars.
Education:
● Minimum High school Diploma or equivalent.
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
