Location: San Diego on-site preferred, some remote possible

Job Summary

Xendat is looking for a Bioinformatics AWS Engineer (Pharma/Healthcare) for a long-term contract role (C2C) with one of our projects.

Xendat is seeking a Senior AWS Data & Analytics Engineer to join the Data & Advanced Analytics team. You will be developing modern data engineering and analytics solutions for research and development teams in the biotech/pharma industry using AWS services and open other source/enterprise tools. Knowledge of AWS data services and biopharma drug discovery processes is key to success in this role.

The organization is looking for a principal engineer of data & advanced analytics who will be responsible for development of cutting edge and modern data engineering and analytics, AI/ML, knowledge graphs and other digital data products being developed out of the AWS data team. We expect you to have an advanced understanding of data and software engineering, analytics, AI/ML, as well as knowledge of biotech and pharma processes for drug discovery and research. Knowledge of lab of the future systems is highly beneficial. Hands on key keyboard experience is a must.

Our data products are aimed at addressing key strategic pain points of internal customers in research and you will be working with them to take business requirements and translate them into architecture and execution plans. You will be good at this role if you enjoy working cross functionally with different teams to design, build, and maintain our data products. You will be measured by your ability to define clear solutions to complex business and technical challenges.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with scientific leaders in the drug discovery research and development functions to discover their needs and build data products to solve their pain points in an agile manner
  • Deeply understand data, software and systems and develop solutions using AWS data services with minimal guidance in an agile manner
  • Understand lab of the future systems and architecture and implement data solutions that move the organization from current state to a modern connected lab ecosystem

as per roadmap and business guidance

  • Lead engineering development teams and work with fellow team members (Architects, other Tech Leads and Systems Engineers) to ensure development activities are aligned with scope, schedule, priorities, and business objectives
  • Migrate existing applications and develop new applications using AWS cloud services
  • Provide technical leadership in design and implementation of large scale, complex SaaS/PaaS systems, data management systems, business intelligence and AI/ML systems requiring high performance and availability
  • Recommend modern data and analytics capabilities that would simplify adoption and drive greater value from use of cloud services
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills across executive leadership, engineering teams, and customers and partners

Required Experience

  • 10 or more years' experience in developing, releasing, and maintaining modern data and advanced analytics applications and systems on AWS
  • 8 or more years’ experience in pharma and biotech industries in the drug discovery/research domains
  • Experience working with assay screens, compounds, biologics, etc.
  • Prior experience in working with lab of the future systems at a previous pharma org is a huge plus
  • Extensive experience with AWS cloud services such as Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon EMR, Amazon Redshift, Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Elastic, Managed Airflow, API Gateways, Storage Gateways etc.
  • Extensive experience building and implementing advanced analytics and AI/ML solutions on cloud platforms
  • Experience with modern technologies such as Airflow, Kafka, Snowflake, Neo4j etc.
  • Experience in building and implementing modern data architectures such as knowledge graphs, reinforced and transfer learning systems, MPP systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of AWS networking is a plus
  • Experience with iterative development life cycle methodologies and application of those principles, especially Agile development practices
