SUPERVISOR: Program Operations Manager

HOURS: Part-time, will vary.

ABOUT WONDERTREK CHILDREN’S MUSEUM:

WonderTrek Children’s Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization currently offering pop-up and distance programming while in development to open a 25,000 square foot regional children’s museum facility in the Brainerd-Baxter area of North Central Minnesota. WonderTrek is led by a dedicated Board of Directors, a passionate staff, and an experienced Museum Project Director.

Bringing together children and families in shared experiences that are grounded locally and open onto the wider world, WonderTrek specializes in providing dynamic material-rich environments, exhibits, events, and programs that engage children in the joy of play and the wonder of learning. Inspired by over 300 children’s museums benefiting communities across the country, WonderTrek and its partners envision a more vibrant and connected region because all children enjoy the supportive relationships, expanding opportunities, and well-being they need to thrive.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a WonderTrek Playworker, you will play a vital role in creating and implementing interactive and engaging programming for children. Your play-based role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation and success of WonderTrek’s programming.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility of a playworker is to attend community events and school visits to deliver WonderTrek programming to Region 5 counties which includes: Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, and Wadena.
  • Engage and interact with children, parents, educators, and other community members in a friendly and professional manner, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Support and enrich children's learning experiences by intentionally setting up materials, prompts, and overall conditions that encourage play and exploration while being available to answer questions about WonderTrek and our programmatic approach.
  • Complete setup and takedown of programs to prepare for and conclude community events.
  • Effectively communicate with hosts and program staff at events to ensure events run smoothly.
  • Stay up to date with current trends, research, and best practices in play-based learning and child development.
  • Provide excellent customer service to children, parents, educators, and caregivers, addressing any concerns or inquiries.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of play areas, including the regular sanitization of handhelds, surfaces, and high-touch areas.
  • Collaborate with your immediate supervisor to gather and report valuable data and feedback from program participants.
  • Safely drive the Wonder Truck and trailer to and from events.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children in a professional setting is highly desirable.
  • A background in education, child development, or a related field is required.
  • Enthusiasm for local outdoor recreation activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and relate to children and their families.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while maintaining a focus on safety and child supervision.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel within a 120-mile radius of Brainerd, MN.
  • Must pass a background check.

  • Communicates warmly and effectively with both kids and adults.

  • Enjoys a dynamic work environment and is flexible with their schedule.
  • Holds a valid driver’s license for local travel.
  • Enjoy working in a team-based, collaborative environment while also being a self-starter able to carry out work independently.

Other details:

  • Pay scale: 16-18 hourly
  • Weekly hours: This is a part time position with a range of 8-16 hours weekly. Hours will vary depending on scheduled events but will include days, evenings, and weekends.
