About us

DeFi Education Fund (DEF) exists to ensure that decentralized finance (DeFi) can flourish with an appropriate global regulatory environment . DEF has secured over $15M of initial funding to pursue its mission.

DEF’s goals are to (1) challenge misguided regulatory, legal, and political threats to DeFi; (2) achieve regulatory clarity for DeFi and related activity; (3) advance laws that support DeFi and decentralized governance; and (4) spur other DeFi protocols’ governance bodies to contribute to the effort (through DEF or their own efforts).

DEF is nonpartisan and global in approach and orientation.

Position Summary

With oversight of DEF’s Board of Directors, the Policy Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the execution of DEF’s mission and goals. The Policy Director will use deep knowledge of DeFi and its policy implications to carry out those strategic and operational responsibilities, and should expect to interact closely with DeFi developers and lawyers to deepen that knowledge of DeFi and policy implications. The Policy Director will need to leverage contacts in government, advocacy groups, educational institutions

We seek a driven and proactive individual who has a high level of personal accountability, is willing to be extremely transparent on all matters relating to DEF’s operations and finances, is connected within the cryptocurrency network participants and governmental agencies, and understands the urgency of DeFi education and advocacy.


The Policy Director’s responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing strategies for achieving DEF’s goals on an aggressive timeframe
  • Working with other cryptocurrency industry groups to find efficiencies and to cause them to shift more focus towards DeFi
  • Developing legal arguments in support of DeFi directly and through other organizations
  • Developing thought leadership on DeFi directly and through other organizations, educators and DeFi participants
  • Developing clear messaging related to DeFi for use with policymakers and other stakeholders
  • Engaging with policymakers
  • Participating in DeFi protocol governance with an eye toward securing additional support for DEF
  • Creating and implementing a process for extreme transparency around operations and finances, which will be shared with DeFi communities



The Policy Director must satisfy the following qualification requirements:

  • Experience in United States based public policy concerning cryptocurrency generally or DeFi specifically
  • High-level knowledge of public policy strategy outside of the United States
  • Ability to convey the benefits of decentralized networks to policymakers
  • Demonstrable passion for DeFi
  • Willingness to engage with DeFi communities
  • Experience leading relationships with diverse stakeholders, including policy makers
  • Willingness to engage across a broad range of timezones, including travel outside of the United States
  • Willingness to execute on a public policy strategy on a shortened timeline
  • Willingness to communicate transparently to a broad DeFi community
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial and self-driven organization
  • “Big picture” strategic thinking combined with the ability to implement tactically and take an idea from concept to completion
  • Superb written and oral communications skills

Nice to Haves

The Policy Director also will ideally have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years involved with cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance, and/or decentralized networks
  • Prior experience advocating and addressing policy matters involving cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance, decentralized networks, and/or peer-to-peer networks
  • Understanding of DeFi communities and the social layer in those communities
  • Personal relationships with policymakers and advocacy organizations involved in cryptocurrency policymaking
