Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing 3 phase power systems to meet product requirements. This person determines design approach, selects components, and evaluates those components by analysis and test in the context of the system design. The Electrical Engineer works closely with firmware developers to evaluate system performance over a variety of conditions and suggests control modifications as necessary. This role will also provide support for purchasing, manufacturing, and field service functions as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to design, test, and troubleshoot 3 phase power systems and/or products.
  • Apply design knowledge in power distribution, grounding, control systems and equipment specifications and selection.
  • Must be able to evaluate electrical components to ensure that they meet design requirements electrically, mechanically, and thermally.
  • Must be able to analyze complex engineering problems and offer effective, timely solutions.
  • Must exhibit ownership of projects/tasks and drive them to timely completion within the given schedule to meet company targets.
  • Must be able to work with all other disciplines within the company to meet product design requirements, like but not limited to Operations, Service, etc.
  • Will be required to create specifications for components/parts that meet mandatory requirements for both internal and external Customers.
  • Need to be able to provide guidance on large scale product developments.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills since interface with Vendors/Supplies is required.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelors of Science Electrical Engineering Degree. Master’s degree preferred.


  • 3+ years of experience with designing and testing 3 phase power systems and/or products.
  • Experience with 3 phase power electronics such as inverters, converters and rectifiers
  • Experience with electronic component selection and PCB board design is a plus.
  • Experience with FPGA and PLD controlled inverters, converters, and rectifiers is a plus.


  • PE Certification preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to read and understand electrical schematics and able to use common diagnostic equipment such as digital multi-meters and oscilloscopes.
  • Able to create electrical schematics using off the shelf software tools (AutoCad, Visio, etc.)
  • Able to simulate power system circuitry to assess design performance.
  • Able to specify cooling requirements for electrical components and subsystems.
  • Must be familiar with UL product requirements, testing, and approval processes pertaining to electrical equipment.
  • Familiar with test methods for assessing and design methods for mitigating conducted and radiated electromagnetic interference.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Will have to sit for long periods of time, with 6+ hours of computer work most days.
  • May be required to lift objects weighing up to 55 pounds.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Climb stairs.
  • Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects.
  • Will need to be cautious around production equipment including electrical test equipment.
