Job Overview
The Community Education Project (CEP) is seeking a dynamic and passionate Native Language Literacy / Spanish ABE Teacher to provide high-quality, evidence-based instruction in Spanish to adult learners working toward their High School Equivalency credential (HiSET or GED). NLL Teacher teaches core subjects: Language Arts-Reading, Language Arts-Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics to prepare students for successful completion of their high school credential. Classes are held on site Monday through Thursday with additional non-instructional hours for lesson planning, preparing, assessments, team meetings, student contacts for a total of 18-20 hours per week.. This position plays a critical role in advancing educational equity by supporting Spanish-speaking adults to strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and achieve meaningful learning outcomes.

There is also potential to combine this role with Spanish Language instruction for community members, depending on qualifications and available funding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver standards-based instruction in literacy, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies to prepare Spanish speaking students for HiSET or GED exams.
  • Use evidence-based practices that are culturally responsive and aligned with adult education standards.
  • Develop engaging, differentiated lesson plans to meet the diverse academic needs of adult learners.
  • Assess student progress formally and informally; adjust instruction based on results.
  • Integrate technology into instruction to support digital literacy and test readiness.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and trauma-informed classroom environment.
  • Provide individualized academic support and encouragement.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and outcomes.
  • Maintain an organized classroom environment conducive to learning, ensuring all materials are prepared and accessible.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and recruitment/outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional strategies and share best practices for student success.
  • Stay current with educational trends and methodologies to continually improve teaching effectiveness.
  • (Optional with additional paid hours)Teach Spanish language classes to English-speaking community members.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Master's degree in Education, literacy, math, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching literacy or ABE-level content to adult learners.
  • Experience using student-centered, evidence-based instructional methods.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage students effectively.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instructional purposes
  • Ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that respects diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to fostering student success. Desire to join us in making a difference in the lives of our students through quality education and opportunities for a better community.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with HiSET/GED standards and testing requirements.
  • Experience teaching in community-based adult education settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices.
  • Ability to teach Spanish as a second language.
  • Massachusetts educator licensure in adult education, ESL, or Spanish (a plus).

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $32.00 per hour
