We are looking to fill the Press Operator position to work on either our Day or Night shift. The Day shift schedule is Monday through Thursday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm and on Friday from 5:30 am to 2:00 pm. The Night shift schedule is Monday through Thursday from 3:00 pm to 1:30 am. Job Description:
The Press Operator at Viking Label works to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient manufacturing of printed labels on a flexographic printing press, to include performing production runs, daily press start-up, and shutdown. Primary responsibilities include monitoring label quality and press conditions and meeting safety, housekeeping, quality, scrap, and productivity quality standards.
Essential Job Functions:
- Review job ticket and work with Press Assistants to ensure job is set up properly on the press per required specifications and job notes (ink, dies, stock, plates).
- Assist in setting up job and changing over to next copy or job.
- Run the job ticket per job specification and log data in the Label Traxx system.
- While running the press, review printed rolls for quality and consistency related to all aspects of the labels including color registration and die cut.
- Communicate with Shift Supervisor and/or Production Manager regarding any issues with the labels and dies.
- Ensure proper data collection for each job, including job notes on material and time variance.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of the press along with the Press Assistant and Supervisor.
- Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed company policies and safety regulations.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement activities and participate in training when offered or needed.
- Follows all plant and corporate safety rules, procedures, and guidelines. Reports all safety concerns or issues to their immediate supervisor.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements, Qualifications & Physical Demands:
- Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
- At least three years’ experience with a Mark Andy P-Series flexographic printing press preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of/understanding of flexographic printing process/equipment
- Ability to read, write, and speak English language
- Displays excellent written and spoken communication skills to effectively communicate with other employees across the organization
- Ability to apply common sense understanding in interpreting work instructions in written, oral, or diagram form, such as safety rules, employment policies, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals
- Must be proactive and detail-oriented to catch problems or inconsistencies and bringing them to management’s attention
- Possesses organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- Should be mechanically inclined in order to grasp the basics of press operation and maintenance
- Ability to visibly match color to standards and possesses close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Knowledge of color theory preferred, but not required
- Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work accurately and with a sense of urgency while under pressure to produce high volumes of work
- Possesses basic computer skills and an ability to learn/operate a Mac-based computer system and internal computer systems
- Ability to accurately calculate figures and utilize a ruler/tape measure
- Ability to differentiate details such as those in measurements, codes, and descriptions (such as verifying a string of numbers)
- Occasionally lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and rarely up to 75 pounds for up to 20 feet in distance (a Key Assessment physical pre-employment test is required)
- Ability to utilize work equipment including 3-step ladders, calculators, ruler/tape measure, computer keyboard/mouse/monitor, various hand tools, roll-lifting tools, ink/solvents, and cleaning tools/agents
Work Environment:
Work will typically be performed Monday through Friday. Working more than 40 hours per workweek and on weekends may be required as needs arise. The plant where work will be performed is indoors and in a temperature-controlled climate where moderate heat, cold or humidity may be experienced. The noise level of the work environment is occasionally loud dependent upon the machinery exposed to, for which personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
