Principal Role Overview

Garden Academy is seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal to lead our specialized school for students with autism. This key leadership role ensures compliance with NJDOE regulations, oversees daily operations, and fosters a positive, inclusive learning environment for students and staff.

Roles and Responsibilities

Educational Leadership

  • Oversee implementation of student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and ensure compliance with NJDOE requirements.
  • Supervise quarterly student progress reporting and NJDOE assessments (e.g., DLM).
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that supports individual student needs.

Human Resources Management

  • Oversee all aspects of staff recruitment, including job postings, interviewing, and hiring, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and standards.
  • Design and oversee retention strategies to foster a positive work environment and reduce staff turnover.
  • Manage time-off requests, ensure accurate timesheet submissions, and coordinate coverage for absences to maintain operational continuity.
  • Develop and implement clear policies for time and attendance tracking in collaboration with administrative staff.
  • Address employee concerns and resolve conflicts through clear and effective communication.
  • Handle disciplinary actions, including performance improvement plans (PIPs) and terminations, in adherence to the organization’s policies and applicable labor laws.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws, including anti-discrimination regulations, family leave policies, and workplace safety standards.
  • Regularly review and refine internal procedures to align with evolving regulatory requirements

Administrative and Fiscal Oversight

  • Collaborate with the bookkeeper and accounting team to develop, manage, and monitor the school budget.
  • Oversee payroll reviews and compliance with fiscal accountability and NJDOE standards.
  • Manage office staff, facility maintenance, and supply procurement.

Strategic Development

  • Work with the Executive Director on long-term strategic initiatives, such as program expansion and facility development.
  • Foster partnerships with external organizations to support resources, fundraising, and grant opportunities.

Compliance and Crisis Management

  • Ensure compliance with NJDOE program and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct safety and emergency drills; maintain and update the crisis management plan.
  • Resolve issues with district transportation and other external service providers.

Community and Parental Engagement

  • Foster collaborative partnerships with families by establishing open lines of communication, providing regular updates on school matters, and addressing individual concerns through personalized meetings and support.
  • Serve as a liaison for complex concerns involving parents or sending districts.
  • Represent the school in community and professional settings to enhance visibility and advocacy.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Valid NJDOE Principal/Supervisor Certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational administration or leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NJDOE compliance, budgeting, and fiscal management.
  • Proven track record in personnel management, including staff recruitment, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Experience with data-based decision making.
  • Familiarity with autism-related services, including applied behavior analysis (ABA) or evidence-based educational strategies.

Pay: From $115,000.00 per year
