Brio Coffeeworks is on the hunt for a Production Assistant candidate, with a rare opportunity to learn to roast, to round out their team of coffee aficionados in Burlington’s South End Arts District!

POSITION DESCRIPTION – PRODUCTION ASSISTANT & APPRENTICE ROASTER
The Production Assistant and Apprentice Roaster is responsible for assisting with the smooth operation of key roasting, production, and quality control functions. In addition to carrying out daily tasks, this requires an eye toward continuous improvement of operations, assisting managers in identifying opportunities for improving quality, efficiency, and safety. The ideal candidate has a background in coffee or related industry and is motivated to learn the craft of roasting and contribute to the production of a high-quality product. Candidates must be capable of performing physically demanding work for long periods of time, as well as practicing good communication, organization, and attention to detail. As is true for all employees, the Production Assistant and Apprentice Roaster is responsible for promoting Brio’s brand and product whenever the opportunity presents itself, representing the product and the company in the best possible light.
Day-to-day Responsibilities
The balance of responsibilities from week-to-week can be quite variable, depending on changes in roasting volume, timing of supplies deliveries, sample volume, and staffing. That said, roughly 50% of the time for this position will be spent on roasting and quality control tasks, with the other 50% comprised of cleaning, maintenance, production and distribution tasks.
- Receive and organize green coffee and supply inventory
- Roast coffees for daily production
- Blend coffee
- Prepare and fill bulk and retail coffee bags
- Retrieve online orders from Shopify
- Packing and shipping orders
- Brewing flash-chilled coffee
- Taking inventory of green and roasted coffee and supplies on a periodic basis
- Roasting green coffee samples
- Setting up and helping to run cuppings
- Performing analysis on green and roasted coffee utilizing laboratory equipment
- Maintaining a clean and organized work space in the quality lab, production and roasting areas
- Cleaning and maintenance of equipment in the quality lab, roasting, and production area
- Running deliveries in the company van to local wholesale customers
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Requirements for position:
- Be comfortable with and adept at utilizing machinery, from small lab to industrial manufacturing equipment
- Be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted and up to 75lbs assisted
- Experience with Shopify and Cropster a plus, but not required
- Have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Be good with people and working in a team environment
- Have a positive attitude, motivation to learn, and exceptional communication and listening skills
- Have the ability to be on their feet for extended periods of time
- Have an eye for detail, being able to think quickly, solve problems, and spot inefficiencies
All tasks are to be carried out in coordination with and under the supervision of the Production Manager.
Position Type and Compensation:
Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM - 5PM with 1 hour lunch bread
Pay: $22/ hour
