Full job description

Steel City Media is a privately owned and operated media company committed to serving our local community with compelling, engaging content and high-quality audio experiences. Our Kansas City cluster includes four iconic brands — Q104 (KBEQ), KC 102.1 (KCKC), Country 94.1 (KFKF), and Mix 93.3 (KMXV) — each with its own unique voice and loyal audience.

We’re looking for a talented, organized, and driven Production Director to join our creative team and help shape the sound of these powerhouse stations.

Position Overview

The Production Director is responsible for leading the creative and technical execution of commercial production, imaging, and station messaging across all four brands. You’ll collaborate with sales, programming, and promotions to ensure that everything from spots to sweepers is delivered with clarity, consistency, and creativity — all while keeping the station sound tight and the workflow efficient.

This role requires advanced proficiency in Adobe Audition and a strong working knowledge of WideOrbit Traffic and Automation systems.

What You'll Do

  • Write, voice, and produce high-quality commercials, promos, imaging, and station liners for KBEQ, KCKC, KFKF, and KMXV.
  • Manage daily production workflow and meet all deadlines with accuracy and creativity.
  • Coordinate with the sales and traffic departments to ensure proper scheduling and placement of all audio content.
  • Maintain organized production files, libraries, and archives.
  • Troubleshoot technical production issues as needed.
  • Collaborate on imaging strategies to maintain each station’s unique brand identity.
  • Train and support part-time production staff, voice talent, and interns when applicable.

What You Bring

  • 2+ years of production experience in radio or audio media.
  • Expert-level skills in Adobe Audition and strong audio editing/mixing chops.
  • Working knowledge of WideOrbit Traffic and Automation systems.
  • A great voice and strong scriptwriting skills.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Passion for radio, creativity, and collaboration.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience producing imaging for multiple station formats.
  • Familiarity with Pro Tools, Audacity, or other DAWs.
  • Podcast or digital audio production experience.
  • A good ear for branding and sonic storytelling.

Why Steel City Media?

  • Competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and a supportive team environment.
  • Creative freedom to help shape the sound of Kansas City radio.
