About us

Chicago Women in Trades (CWIT) is a non-profit tradeswomen’s organization dedicated to increasing women’s economic equity through access to high-wage, skilled trade jobs. Founded in 1981 by tradeswomen, CWIT is constituent-led with tradeswomen’s organizing and leadership development central to the organization’s work and successes. CWIT’s direct service programs, organizing, advocacy initiatives, and technical assistance are internationally recognized as best practices to promote and ensure equity and inclusion in male-dominated blue-collar occupations.

CWIT's National Center for Women’s Equity in Apprenticeship and Employment is the leading national entity advancing policy, conducting advocacy, and offering technical assistance to increase the number of women entering and being retained in male-dominated jobs and apprenticeships in the construction, manufacturing, and transportation sectors. The National Center offers customized guidance, resources, and trainings for registered apprenticeship programs, unions, contractors, employers, tradeswomen, community-based organizations, workforce boards, and other industry stakeholders and public agencies to build women’s equity and inclusion in job training programs, unions, and the workplace. Overall function

This position, working collaboratively with the National Center team, will support the management of multi-organization, multi-state technical assistance initiatives designed to build the capacity of apprenticeship programs and other stakeholders to recruit and retain women in construction, manufacturing, and transportation occupations. Key responsibilities include preparing reports, maintaining data, event planning/coordination, and administrative support for the National Center.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Program Management

  • Build and manage collaborative relationships and regular communications with sub-contractors and Center partners
  • Compile and prepare narrative and data reports to funders and other stakeholders
  • Track project and subcontractor performance deliverables, expenditures, and timelines
  • Manage partner and stakeholder contacts
  • Manage administrative responsibilities for the Center

Event Management

  • Manage scheduling, promotion and logistics for webinars, trainings and presentations
  • Coordinate logistics and planning for learning institutes, conferences, webinars, trainings, and other events

Publications and Resources

  • Manage updating, promotion and distribution of print and virtual resources
  • Support research for, and development of, content for resources, briefs, articles, and toolkits
  • Edit and proofread materials to ensure they are accurate, maintain a consistent tone, and communicate core messages and values

Qualifications

Competitive candidates will have at a minimum, some combination of the following:

  • Strong research, written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects and tasks
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to meet deadlines and deliverables with precision and accuracy
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Commitment to and passion for CWIT’s mission of economic equity and empowerment for women
  • Understanding of intersectionality in underrepresented populations’ struggle for equity and inclusion
  • Willingness to work outside of traditional work hours and to travel on a regular basis
  • This position will be ideally based in either Chicago or Philadelphia, but candidates outside these areas will be considered

Salary & Benefits

  • This is a full-time salary position with occasional evening and weekend hours and some travel required. Salary range is $55K-60K commensurate with experience. CWIT offers a competitive benefits package including health, dental, disability and life insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal time, and contributions to a retirement plan.
