Position Summary
We are seeking a Project Officer II with 5+ years of experience to oversee various NYC school construction projects. The Project Officer II will work closely with the Project Team in both office and field environments to ensure the successful development and construction of high-quality school projects. The ideal candidate should be not only an excellent project manager but also an effective communicator and team player.
We’re seeking someone with a strong desire to play a versatile role within a fast-growing company.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the administration and coordination of complex school construction projects.
- Ensure quality and high standards of performance and compliance in both design and construction by all consultants, vendors, etc.
- Make decisions and take timely actions to expedite the completion of the school construction process.
- Correct design and construction errors early in the process.
- Make decisions on project phasing and scheduling.
- Prepare and monitor schedules for planning, design, and construction to ensure timely project completion within approved cost limitations.
- Interface with contractors, construction managers, local school personnel, and Senior Project Officers on project issues.
- Participate in the development and issuance of project procedures and policies.
- Provide guidance and advice to lower-level Project Officers.
- Resolve issues and problems raised in field reports made by architects and construction management staff.
- Work with the architect/engineer of record regarding change orders, contract documents, shop drawing submittals/approvals, and other technical matters.
- Issue field memoranda or directives to contractors to enforce contract compliance.
- Advise senior management regarding the necessity for the assessment of liquidated damages and other contractual enforcement mechanisms.
- Review contractors' claims or disputed work and advise senior management on appropriate action.
- Compile contract and project documentation necessary for adjudicating or denying such claims.
- Visit various job sites as required in the performance of duties.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- 5 or more years of progressively responsible work as a technical specialist in construction and design-related fields.
- Valid driver's license in New York State.
- Experience managing all phases of construction work on a scale and scope similar to the SCA.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of construction codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and project management software.

The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
