As a Research & Development Lab Specialist with MariMed, you will have unique opportunities to assist in developing, scaling and launching premium cannabis products for our diverse and growing portfolio of concentrates, vapes, infused flower and edibles. The R&D Lab Specialist will work closely with our Director of R&D and Lab Director along with the procurement, brand management, sales, compliance and other teams. Among other things, the R&D Lab Specialist will work closely on the formulation, process development, evaluation, scale up and commercialization of new products. This role will also assist in maximizing the efficiency and quality of our current portfolio of products. Successful candidates thrive in an environment of hands-on, fast-paced, product development and has a passion for cannabis and innovation.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform sample preparations, tests, and analysis using the appropriate equipment, instrumentation, standards, and methods
  • Evaluate new process technologies providing breakthrough capabilities for all innovations, renovations, and productivity initiatives within MariMed’s manufacturing facilities
  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies and processes
  • Analyze samples to confirm state specifications for potency, contaminants, and other required testing
  • Lead new product process trainings for production teams
  • Execute internal and external product evaluations generating data to validate progress
  • Perform duties in a safe manner while adhering to Company SOP’s, GMP, and all state regulations
  • Assist in the development of GMP’s, SOP’s and SSOP’s at manufacturing locations
  • Provide technical support on production and equipment
  • Work with Process Engineer to scale up processes and create process work instructions for production
  • Provide technical risk assessment/perspectives related to new manufacturing processes
  • Support waste and cost reduction initiatives
  • Support all plant safety initiatives related to processing
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process
  • Lead cost analysis during the development process of a new product
  • Translate product attributes and process parameters into formal specifications for manufacture
  • Investigate and apply new technology to provide a competitive advantage
  • Ability and interest to work in laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing scale environments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across multiple facilities
  • Assist production lab as needed
  • Familiarity with data science
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Willingness to travel (up to 50%)

Requirements

  • Candidates with cannabis industry experience are preferred
  • Familiar with cannabis extraction
  • Familiar with different vaporizer hardware
  • Must be proficient in math, formulations and conversions
  • Passionate about innovation, creativity, quality and cannabis
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Maturity to take and give criticism and direction
  • Self-starter; able to thrive with minimal supervision and resourceful to seek and source additional support as needed
  • Must pass any and all required background checks
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry
