Gamma Reality Inc. (GRI) provides real-time, mobile, 3D hazard mapping capabilities deployable in handheld mode, on unmanned robotic platforms (UAV/UGV) and on vehicles, to enable safer, more efficient, and dynamic missions. Job Description:

We have an immediate need for a candidate with expertise in advanced radiation detection systems, simulations and detection algorithms. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in quantitative assessment of radiation detector systems, and novel algorithms applied to their outputs, in simulations and experiments. Exceptional candidates will have applied quantitative approaches to detection & imaging in hardware and software. A successful candidate in this role will apply new methodologies to emerging opportunities in the 3D radiation detection and mapping market, work on novel radiation detection and imaging systems and work toward betterment of the human condition.

GRI is looking for the next generation of experts in radiation detection who are self-driven, results-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively with team members from different technical backgrounds. This role will engage heavily in early technology development stages through to customer / sponsor demonstrations and does require some lab & field work.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Apply quantitative methods to 3D radiation detection, mapping and imaging systems integrated with particle beams
  • Perform initial prototyping, simulation and eventual implementation of radiation detector mapping and imaging systems & understand physics associated with particle beam stimulus
  • Apply quantitative Monte Carlo (GEANT4 / MCNP) simulations to coincidence experimental systems, understand signal, noise and correlated noise sources & realize physics-limited performance in real hardware
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and deploy new systems and provide technical expertise


  • Expertise in quantitative simulation and experimental assessment of radiation detection systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in GEANT4 / MCNP, applied to gamma-ray / neutron imaging or to particle beam detection
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art performance and limitations of scintillator radiation detectors (energy resolution, light transport, rate capability & etc)
  • Experience writing high quality Python or C++
  • 3+ years experience with radiation detectors
  • M.S., or PhD in nuclear engineering, physics, nuclear science or related field

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with pulse shape processing, waveform capture and real-time processing of radiation detector signals
  • Experience running and setting up advanced radiation detection systems
  • Experience with multichannel electronics
  • Experience with radiation detection and imaging
