Full job description

We are seeking an individual to assist in the organization and execution of research objectives for our early stage game-based education technology startup STEAMEngine Inc. Initially these objectives of this division will include design research regarding: (a) citizen science, (b) human computer interfaces for active learning, (c) earth science data visualizations, and (d) current events in earth science topics for a k-12 audience. This coordinator will help in the establishment this program’s agenda, tracking and supporting participation in relevant conferences/events and grant opportunities. A strong background in science, technology, design, data visualization, and human computer interaction are preferred. Digital fluency is required. This person will be responsible for the creation/editing of documentation to be used in communications with both the company’s development group as well as its education group.
This person will report directly to the Chief Science Officer (Dr. Albert YM Lin) and will work at STEAMEngine’s West Coast office at the “innovation space” located in UC San Diego’s Calit2, but will coordinate daily with STEAM Engine’s Washington D.C. based production team via a virtual conferencing platform.


  • Innovative thinking to fuse traditional science education with emerging citizen, participatory and challenge-based science education;
  • HCI, UX/UI, design experience;
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex multi-media projects and geographically dispersed teams;
  • Superb communication skills – both written and verbal;
  • Deadline-driven and detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task;
  • Strong balance of creative and analytical skills, with the demonstrated ability to successfully drive both strategy and execution;
  • Comfortable using a variety of technologies (including tools, devices, and software) for work and communications;
  • A deep commitment to the importance of developing and delivering innovative education programs that inspire and engage students.

Salary: $50,000.00 /year
