REACH AmeriCorps Member Position Description (half-time)
REACH AMERICORPS PROGRAM OVERVIEW
REACH (Regional Engagement to Advance Community Health) AmeriCorps, a program of the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR), is dedicated to expanding capacity for public health service by providing direct outreach and education service in the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County. Members will provide individualized support, addressing the region’s most pressing physical and mental health challenges through a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) lens.

POSITION SUMMARY
REACH AmeriCorps members will conduct two workshops per week over 40 weeks in targeted census tracts in Danville City, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County. Workshops will be based on specific population health topics, addressing areas of high-need and chronic health issues. Members will serve approximately 25 hours/week.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support outreach events, to include COVID vaccination clinics and neighborhood gatherings.
- Provide assistance and referrals in helping individuals address social determinants of health to include transportation, housing, food insecurity, economic distress and childcare.
- Refer individuals to REACH Community Health Workers for intensive service and connection to a primary care physician.
- Keep records and report to Coordinator on a regular basis.
- Document progress of participant’s goals and administer pre/post assessments.
- Collaborate with staff, fellow AmeriCorps members, and partner organizations to develop and support service projects in the primary areas of healthy futures.
- Recruit volunteers to support identified service opportunities.
- Attend all mandatory host site and REACH meetings.
- Attend all planned training sessions for REACH members.
- Complete and submit accurate and timely documentation of AmeriCorps service hours.
- Participate in any service projects required by the REACH AmeriCorps Program.
APPLICANTS MUST:
- Be at least 18 years old on their first day of service
- Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident alien
- Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency or agree to obtain one during the term of service
- Not have served more than the allowed number of AmeriCorps terms previous to this term
- Dress appropriately; i.e., as a professional educator and wear AmeriCorps apparel or button while in service.
- Submit to a full background check, including a sex offender registry check, state criminal history registry check, and FBI fingerprint-based check. This position may have recurring access to vulnerable populations and selection is contingent upon satisfactory results of these checks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong health proficiency
- Health background or professional experience working with public
- Associate’s degree or higher
- Silver level National Career Readiness Certificate
- Intermediate computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office products
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Strong organizational skills
- Technology literate with the ability to use virtual meeting platforms and online programs
BENEFITS:
· Living allowance of no less than $11,500 for a service term of 900 hours over 9 months
· Eligibility for Segal Education Award of $3,447.50 at the end of a successful term of service, which can be used to repay student loans or for current or future education.
· Mileage reimbursement for non-host site location travel

Activities are contingent upon funding availability and award from CNCS.

Pay: $1,277.77 per month
