Part-time Temporary Position (6 months)- Looking for RDH/RDHAP throughout California to help with needs assessment.

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Research and Evaluation Manager, performs a variety of professional program activities for COH’s Oral Health Needs Assessment of Older Adults. This is a part-time position to conduct screenings within nursing facilities and congregate meal sites within the state of California. RDH/RDHAP must be available 1-3 days per week to participate in the project. The Registered Dental Hygienist/Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDH/RDHAP) assist in the Basic Screening Survey (BSS) data collection of older adults in community dwellings and meal sites. The RDH/RDHAP will provide technical assistance with program content, implementation strategies and evaluation.

Due to the broad scope of this project, the RDH/RDHAP works closely with Center for Oral Health’s partner organizations to implement and expand the components of Older Health Needs Assessment of Older Adults.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Implementation
Responsible for the Oral Health Assessments in compliance with established rules, regulations, and ordinances.

Interfaces with partner organizations, health practitioners of various types, and assist in developing relationships with external stakeholders, provider networks, and partners.

Works closely with Research and Evaluation Manager and Interim Chief Executive Officer to assist in the coordination and management of data collection necessary. Ensures program performance goals are met.

Program Development
Inform program design, delivery, and evaluation of Oral Health Needs Assessment of Older Adults.

Works closely with the esearch and Evaluation Manager and other clinical staff and partner organizations to continuously review the program and ensures that it meets the needs of participants from a variety of cultures, races, ethnic backgrounds, classes, languages, religions, and other diversity factors.

Clinical
Works with partners and other clinical staff to survey older adults in accordance with the Basic Screening Survey model. Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health and prevention of dental disease.

Completes data collection and other records or paperwork as required by COH.

Responsible for personal as well as organizational full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene and the clinical provision of dental hygiene care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is NOT responsible for the oversight of other staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training
Completion of an accredited Dental Hygiene program.

Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of previous experience within the dental profession as a dental assistant or dental hygienist. Experience in public health or community health highly preferred.

Other Skills and Qualifications
Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills in order to manage the diverse tasks and interact with the varied constituencies involved in the programs.

Language Skills
Given the service population that is benefitted by the funding for this position, Bilingual skills in Spanish (English-Spanish) are strongly preferred.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Computer Skills
Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access) for email, data access, budgeting, and reporting. Ability to navigate electronic dental health record/billing software.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
Current RDH or RDHAP license to practice in California. License must be in good standing with the Dental Hygiene Committee of California (DHCC).

Valid California Driver License and Automobile Liability Insurance.

Other Requirements
Must be willing to complete additional training for the implementation of Basic Screening Survey (BSS) component of the Oral Health Needs Assessment of Older Adults project.

Must complete and submit documentation of the DOJ Live Scan process (Department of Justice) to obtain clearance to work.

TB Screening: upon hire and periodically thereafter. TB clearance is a strict requirement for this position.

Physical Exam: upon hire and periodically thereafter. Physical is a strict requirement for this position

Travel Requirements
Must have reliable transportation and be available to travel to various locations where Oral Health Needs Assessment of Older Adults project is implemented. Travel may be required on a local, regional, or national level for program implementation, program activities or attend conferences related to the programs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision due to see the intricacies of the dental equipment. Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility normally associated with the practice of primary care dentistry will be performed on a repetitive basis. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols, as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, and copiers is required.
